The “Flower of Srebrenica” unveiled today at the UN in NYC

“Our children were murdered just because they bore a different name, they were called differently, and they were Muslim,” said Munira Subašić, President of the Association of the Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa, speaking to more than 100 people on a cold but sunny November afternoon in New York. She has spent 30 years advocating for the more than 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys killed in the UN-protected enclave of Srebrenica.

“This flower signifies that we are still here and there will be more of us,” Ms. Subašić said.

Audrey Hepburn cared about the welfare of people. She was more than a pretty face in a little black dress. She saw the worst of humanity during WWII and vowed to help others no matter the cost. Her biggest fear was watching history repeat itself. She began working with the United Nations in the 1950s and devoted her remaining years to traveling the world on behalf of UNICEF. She was a woman of depth, integrity, and compassion. Audrey was the real deal.
