It goes both ways. I don’t mean for this to come across as accusatory, but rather for solidarity. No one of us is experiencing “more dead” inside, this isn’t a competition. Instead, I’m saying that we should just try to do our best to work together so someone else that’s feeling dead inside doesn’t have to do more of the work. Teachers should understand their students, and students should try to understand their teachers (I say try because you guys are still kids/teens, it’s not really a solid expectation for an adult to ask you to understand the ins and outs of psychology when most adults don’t even properly understand it). Some of us suffer from depression and anxiety, too. We put together lesson plans that we care about (you can tell which teachers care and which don’t) and to have you mentally check out makes giving that lesson 100 times more difficult and soul-crushing. I know you don’t want to be here, so I’m doing my best to make it interesting. Plus, if you participate in class, the time goes by much more quickly, so we can get on our way to withdrawing for the rest of the day.
