let’s walk to the bakery this afternoon.

we can take the long way there. no need for us to rush. of course, we can hold hands. we can talk about anything that’s in that pretty little head of yours. or we can walk in silence & admire this beautiful day.

when we get there, we’ll stand in front of the display case for way too long because we always have a hard time deciding.

“what do you want?”

“i don’t know, what do you want?”

and somehow we end up getting more than we needed because we both said we wanted to try a bite of each.

we’ll find a little spot outside and split our treats. i’ll give you the bigger piece even though you’ll pretend you didn’t notice.

don’t argue with me, baby. i saw you looking at it.

tell me which one is your favorite? which one do you like the least?

come here, sweet girl. you have pastry on your cheek.

afterward, let’s walk around the lake.

we can take our time. we’ll hold hands and let the afternoon pass around us.

you can point out every dog we see. yes, even the ones i won’t see in time. i know you can’t help it.

we’ll sit by the water for a while when our feet get tired.

maybe i’ll lean my head on your shoulder. maybe you’ll lean yours on mine.

we can talk about our dreams, our silly thoughts, the things we want to do someday.

or we can just sit there.

i don’t need every moment with you to be filled with words.

i just like being near you.

on the walk home, i’ll squeeze your hand a little tighter.

because sometimes i still can’t believe i get to have these little moments with you.

a bakery treat.
