“power corrupts” does NOT mean “oppression purifies”
I think a lot about how much of Tumblr fandom was born during the era of Superwholock and of similarly aged phenomenon like Once-ler. The realization of the Tumblr sexyman. How that eventually devolved into the Steven Universe era where fandom people made passionate pleas about how only consuming children's media is fine and that its good to harass the creators of children's shows when their shows do not show a nuanced understanding of the world suitable for adults.
and now we're in like. The era of Tuoys. A state of almost complete infantilization of the fandomite, allowing them to retreat to the safety of just playing tuoys. We don't need to discuss the misogyny present in fandom, or the transphobia, or the ways in which there is a clear disregard for women that stems back to the Superwholock days. You, dear fandom enjoyer, do not need to be self-reflective about the media you consume or the way in which you express your self-interests. It's just playing with tuoys! If anyone raises an objection, it's just that they're mad at how you're playing with tuoys and they shouldn't be taken seriously!
Well okay you do have to take a couple of black people seriously because despite the incredibly reductive view we don't want to be seen as racists.
It's honestly kind of embarrassing. How have you guys inoculated yourself so much in the media zeitgeist like this? I think of the bit in the Folding Ideas NFT video where he talks about how blockchain has to be so resilient to man in the middle attacks because otherwise it would be acutely vulnerable to them. Like, your ideology is acutely vulnerable to bigotry and prejudice! So much so that its steeped in it.
I'm shy at first and then im like donkey from shrek

i think this captures the defining pathology of the collective social media psyche right now. we are in the thrall of people who are wantonly cruel but who also demand to be coddled at all times in every way
my biggest word of advice to anyone scared to post their work/ocs/involve themselves in creative spaces online is to earnestly get interested in other people. be kind to others, like/reblog their work, tell them what you like about their work, get to know them as people.
this isn’t to “weasel” your way into anything or having ulterior motives or whatever. if you become friends with someone then that’s great! but there’s always something very personal about posting any kind of creative work. we’re all trying our best to connect with each other and the best way to get comfortable is to get to know others and show up as yourself. 🫶🏾
i'm gonna be honest i don't get why they say everypony instead of everybody in mlp. it's not like the word everybody is human-specific. the ponies have bodies. the word everypony, however, is pony-specific in a world where ponies are not the only people in their society, which means it would be more accurate and inclusive to use everybody instead of everypony. it all makes no sense to me
maybe they all hate spike..?
oh my god
oh my god
The Brony to alt-right pipeline is starting to make a little more sense now.
I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with relating to characters, “they’re literally me” etc but if that’s the only way you engage with stories you’re kinda missing the whole point of Characters being vehicles through which we can see perspectives outside of our own. and also you’re going to get upset when the Character acts in a way that is not Personally Relatable to You
doubly for shipping. at risk if biting the hand that feeds me, a well written fictional relationship should ideally be more than a didactic template for how to have a nice relationship

And here is the climbing rose that Hawthorne is always hassling when I'm not looking. She's small but mighty little flower, sort of like Young Sheldon.
