Sorry if this is out of your wheelhouse or the subject matter is too gross. Feel free to ignore.
I was just curious about the ethicality of involving taxidermy/animal bones/other remains in sexual activities? If it’s unethical, why? Is it technically necro/zoophilia?
No worries! I don't mind questions out of my wheelhouse; I just can't guarantee to be helpful lol. For anyone wondering, I will be discussing this a bit in depth and refer to some explicit antiBlack violence in this, but I'm not sure how to tag it so. Just letting you know. 👍🏼
Now, its a little hard for me to answer on "ethics". Not just because disability-wise, I have a hard time understanding certain things like that but more because everyone kinda has a different opinion and understanding of them.
Like, ethics is (I think) about our responsibility to other creatures and the general world around us. It's about "right" versus "wrong', which is something that really varies for everyone and situation.
Now, likely, we can all recognize fully that bones are not alive and do not have the ability (or need) for consent. But I also wonder how this coincides with our respect towards other beings!
Those bones/remains/etc aren't the same as a picture or writing about someone or something like that, they were part of someone and while I think ethics and morality are mostly bullshit, I think that counts for something a bit more substantial?
Like, even if its not a consent violation, it definitely seems disrespectful to me?
For example, a common thing that was done to my people as a sign of disrespect was our bodies being eaten or used for furniture or tools and shit like that after our death but I'm also aware you're referring to a very different context.
So I actually don't really know. I've been thinking on it for awhile and honestly, I'm not sure what I think exactly. I'm leaning towards 'that sounds disrespectful' but I'd be really interested in hearing other people's thoughts on it.
Now, that said, necrophilia/zoophilia are not explicitly actions. They're technically descriptors of certain types of attraction. So the actual act of involving these things could be called that but the terms are actually more meant to describe the attraction to doing it.
Which is fine. Attraction is generally a neutral thing; its not the same as action. Though, I suppose, the action is not necessarily hurting anyone unless you're killing animals for that purpose, except maybe yourself if we take into consideration diseases and shit.
But that also doesn't take into account "ethics" or whatever, its just a general statement. So yeah. I've gotten better at understanding the concept of ethics over the years and thinking on "why is this actually wrong besides just 'ew' or 'people say so'" but I'm not sure on this one specifically. \o/
It's definitely food for thought, though.
