Are the characters in IASIP flanderized?
No
Yes, but it makes them better
Yes, and it makes them worse
Only some characters/only to a certain extent
Was hanging out with some friends the other night and one of them said what is essentially my sleeper agent phrase these days: “We should put on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia!” I had a Very Normal Reaction and my friends definitely thought I was So Normal but whatever. Me and the guy who suggested the show ended up having a very long wonderful convo about iasip as we watched the first four eps of s1. This question was something we disagreed on, so I’m curious to hear what other fans think! Maybe I’ll write more on it after I get some results … :D I’ll gatekeep my own opinion for now so I don’t bias the poll
In case anyone doesn’t know (I didn’t know there was a word for this until this conversation), Flanderization is when a trait or traits in a fictional character are heavily exaggerated as the show goes on, so much so that it distorts their original characterization. The term originally comes from Ned Flanders, but there are a lot of examples through media. A simple one that comes to mind is how in Parks and Rec (fantastic show), Leslie goes from mildly enjoying waffles to them being one of her core driving factors.
If anyone has more thoughts on flanderization and Sunny please feel free to discuss in the comments/reblogs. I’m so curious as to what people think!
