Only the Good Die Young || Uncoeurbrave
Marco had gotten to take a look at this guyâs files. Just some general information about him, a bit of medical info..Â
Let us review what he knew about this man.. His name was Jean Kirschtein. He was an ex cop. Heâd been suffering with lung cancer for quite a while. They seemed to have been a little late on catching it.. If he could remember correctly.. He came from a wealthy family, who had not checked in to see him even once..
He just kept a warm smile on his lips as the other threw negative commentary his way.. It would be okay. Honestly, it wasnât too bad. Heâd heard plenty of stories about other patients.. Compared to what he had heard, this guy was quite mellow.
âSorry, youâre still stuck with me,â He laughed softly. It really seemed like he didnât want him there.. Well, it was kind of to be expected.. A stranger barging into your hospital room, apparently assigned to make you âhappier.â
Trust him, Marco knew what absolute bullshit that sounded like.. But, itâs what heâd been assigned to do. It had good intentions. It really did.. But, were they effective?
A frown found itself wanting to shove itâs wave onto his lips. But, he restrained it. âI'm just a regular guy.. I'm not a person who can just suddenly make everything go away, or somehow grant you happiness with magic or something. Iâm here so that you know.. You have someone to go to. Someone to talk to. Iâm not a doctor, Iâm not a saint.. Iâm just a guy.â
It was the truth, and nothing but the truth.
His next words sort of threw him for a loop. This time, the frown was a little more pushy about making an appearance. âWell, you couldnât be more wrong,â He replied. âI'm a volunteer. I care.. I care a lot. Youâre a person just like me, of course I care about you. I care about everyone..â He spoke with a sense of finality. It was a little puzzling.. Why would he just assume he didnât care?
"Why? don't you have anything better to do?" Okay, so this guy seemed a little too perky to the blond. How could be be so happy, so smiley around people who are dying as they spoke?Â
It confused him.
"I know you're a guy. I'm just a guy. We're both guys. S'not like we can walk on water, believe me. I used to think I could, look where it got me." A bitter-sweet laugh left his lips.Â
"So, don't you have some thing you wanna talk about? that I have to - what's on the agenda today hmm? 'Cause I sure as hell ain't got no ideas."
The golden eyes belonging to the blond traveled over his artificial ray of sunshine; watching his face carefully as he mentally reviewed him.
He was pale; a brunet.. Â had freckles (Jean had a thing for freckles, it was like the ultimate weakness he had), a wide; bright smile.. A strong sense of justice.Â
This guy is pretty cute; he will admit it.
"Why do you care about me? i'm nobody. Someone you barely know. I could be the most horrible person you've ever met. So I wouldn't say you care about everyone. Does that mean you care about the rapists? the serial killers? the people who ignore their own kin and leave them to die? pedophiles?             ---- I care about the people of this town. But not                those who do wrong."
