I'm lost. I've moved somewhere new, a place where I don't fit in. No friends here to speak of. How can I find myself?
Look on the community partnershipβs orΒ cityβs website for some new events. Pick three that look promising, make a commitment to go to one. Walk into the small shops in a neighborhood that makes you feel good. Go into the shops that look nice, the used book stores, the small soap shops. Say hello to the people working behind the counter, ask them their favorite place to get lunch, or favorite wine bar. Learn their names. Smile. Say hello to them when you see them out.Β
Write. To yourself, in five years, or five months. Five days.Β
Do you remember the first film that made your heart ache and your eyes welled up with tears? Watch it.Β
Ask your parentβs what their favorite music was when they were your age, or their favorite book. Listen to it. Read it. Write or talk to them about it.Β
Walk around. Find your favorite places to sit and eat lunch. Find out about the history of the place you live. The building you live in. Donβt focus on how you fit.Β
Focus on how much better you can feel. Buy a plant for your place and rearrange the furniture so in the morning you have designated spots for designated things, like tea or coffee. Or catching up on book, or current events.Β
Be kind to yourself. Please, be as kind as you have been to a close friend.Β
