I was never afraid of the dark.
i was never afraid of the dark, it wasn't the light fading into the dark. it was the fact that when the dark came, i realized that i was alone. the dark made the pictures on my walls fade and my books gone, my mirror didn't have my reflection anymore, it was just dark.
i wasn't afraid of the dark, i was afraid of being alone.
but after turning 13 i started not being afraid of being alone because i was used to it, not in a physical sense, i had people around me but i was always alone with my emotions because no one tried to understand what was going on inside my head. the little 13 year old me had to sit there and know that no one would pull her out of the darkness. so she wasn't afraid anymore. not because she grew up and not because she didn't believe in ghosts or monsters under the bed, she never did. but because she got used to being alone in the darkest moments.
I wasn't afraid of the dark, it was me knowing that there was no one there.
