So hey, we’re all feeling about 900 emotions at once, right? That finale was nuts. I’ve already seen a lot of meta about how exactly the team finally broke the loop and I’m loving all of them, so I’m throwing my hat into the ring - thanks to @meanderings0ul for encouraging me to write it out.

I think the time loop broke when May gave Coulson the choice to take the serum.

Phil says at the beginning of that scene that he doesn’t appreciate being left out of the discussion. It’s been a running theme that the team is largely ignoring his own wishes, for what I think we all agree are very valid reasons - Daisy and May because they love him and refuse to let him die, Yoyo because she was explicitly told that saving Coulson destroys the earth.

Following this line of reasoning, it’s easy to believe there are other outcomes where they just inject him. The odium is already useless by this point, so it makes sense to get Coulson healing as quickly as possible since as far as they know that’s the only option left. No point in letting him die anyway when they’ve already gone to all this trouble.

However, giving him the choice of whether to use it means that he reappears during a crucial moment that solidifies the team - in other words, putting the pieces together - and sets the stage for all seven of them to work together under someone everyone agrees is best suited for the job, with their previous leader’s explicit support. If Phil had been given the serum, there would still be a split in the team because he made it very clear that he didn’t want this to happen.

That scene is also when he sneaks the serum to Daisy in her gauntlets without anyone knowing. If Phil had been given the serum, Daisy would have been absorbed by Talbot and used to destroy the earth. Instead, she’s able to yeet him out to space because of her magnified powers.

Future Yoyo is actually correct when she says saving Phil Coulson is what destroys the earth, because Phil wasn’t the one who needed the serum in the first place - Daisy was.

Finally, back to the decision that broke it in the first place. None of this happens without Melinda May making the conscious decision to let Phil choose. This is the most beautiful part of the whole thing to me, because Coulson and May have been making decisions to save each other without actually consulting each other since the original T.A.H.I.T.I. itself back in season one. It’s been a point of contention in this series especially, as the fic will tell you - they just want to keep each other safe above all else. That’s fine when you’re agents, but when you’re facing each other as romantic partners, it’s more important to respect the other person’s agency [heh] and right to decide for themselves. It is this simple moment in which it is a request and not an order that saves the entire planet.

Agents of Shield has officially been renewed for a season 6!!!

HOWEVER

It has been renewed for 13 episodes NOT the typical 22/23. It’s unknown of those 13 episodes will be the final, or if more will be added on or if they’ll be renewed for a season 7.

We may be a small but active fanbase, but during the finale and during those 13 episodes, we need to make our voices heard. Get Agents of Shield trending on every platform we can. We were blessed with 13 more episodes, but we shouldn’t settle for that. Let’s show Marvel and ABC just how loyal and loud this small fanbase can get!!

After the episode last night, and after reading the few interviews Melissa had done for the episode this morning, I kind of felt prompted to speculate about what this season and next season entails for our favorite couple.

This is simply pure speculation under the cut with some SPOILERS from last night and possible spoilers for the future. It’s a bit long (nothing new there XD). I’m sure ppl will agree as well as disagree. Feel free to comment your opinion.

Revenge is a big part of it. But we were shown in 7.10 that revenge is not the only part of why Daryl is fighting. We were shown that there is one thing - one person - that matters more than all of this. We were shown that Carol is Daryl’s one exception - that he puts her before revenge, before war, before anything else. 

A point was made of Richard mistaking Daryl for someone who had lost everything. A point was made of showing that Daryl has not lost everything, and is not like Richard, who was solely fighting for revenge.

I am annoyed by this for a long time and I’m feeling brave today,so I’m gonna go against the self-appointed “tumblr inquisition” for once. I’m very aware of the sad fact that people will block me and chase me with pitchforks and torches,ha.

Norman Reedus is not a sexist.

Melissa KNOWS him for years and she would not respect him like she does if he were.The man is a poor rhetorician and a hot mess that could use the hand of a good resolute woman asap.(oops,am I sexist now,too?) Melissa knows this,his castmates know this.He was fumbling.He made a ridiculously bad word choice.He got called out.He corrected himself.The situation resolved itself because Norman made himself kind of a joke.Melissa let it be and rightly so.She knows how to handle him.It was funny.No one took real offense.So shouldn’t we.

End of story.

I think it is the smarter choice to remember the things we know about people and their abilities and connections rather than to loose ourselves in dissecting words and sentences and hidden meanings of an obviously- in such situations- not very thoughtful or remotedly eloquent man.  (and he is also not remotedly spiteful)

Let’s not make life more difficult than it really is.
