Mock Race: Day 2. Sunrise Timelapse
It’s been a bright morning for the team, as you can see in this timelapse. Fans sent them off from Camp Michigania right on schedule. The caravan wound its way through rural routes along Grand Traverse Bay. The solar cells were performing well.
“I’m optimistic,” said Perry Benson, lead radio operator. “This will help us figure out the details of the car and learn more how to operate as a team.”
Benson rides shotgun in the caravan’s lead vehicle and his job is to warn the solar car driver and the rest of the team about what’s ahead - rough roads, traffic lights, an oncoming semi, even a pothole. Potholes can be very dangerous to the low-riding solar car. The 2013 car Generation lost a suspension mount when it couldn’t avoid one.
How did the eyes and ears of the team feel as the mock race began?
“Ready to watch the road for a long time.”
