Back on My Bullshit

Tale of the Body Thief has so far been the most interesting book of the Vampire Chronicles for me. Like IWTV I feel like we just meander through the plot and Louis feelings. TVL is good for lore but I think drags and very in charatcer- Lestat just never shuts up. Even when you think the book is done there's an epilogue with 2 chapters and like an epilogue part 2 called Dionysus in San Francisco 1985, also with chapters. Then QTD is a slow read. There's a ton of perspective switches and I understand why but its hard to care about WHERE IS LESTAT when we are following Baby Jenks or like we get to see our first look at Pandora and she's just sad in the cold mountains (until she actually does do something interesting). Also the story of The Twins is interesting but they bread crumb the information for far too long and repeat the same thing over and over before we get more information. Its frustrating. On top of getting to know Akasha who yes narratively is also frustrating and petulant. Book 2 and 3 are just LONG. The first time finishing the trilogy I had no interest in reading more. Now, Tale of the Body Thief? Honestly pretty fun. There's a clear and upfront premise, Lestat's motivations and character all make sense, and the stakes are high and obvious from the jump. There's not too many characters. We stay in 1 perspective. David Talbot and Louis are good foils for Lestat. The tone is excellent especially building up to the body switch. I hope Memnoch keeps up the fun because I really want to read Armand's book. I know I can read it pretty stand alone but still.
