FINAL PORTFOLIOS
Your tumblr pages should be formatted in the following manner to ensure that I can find all the items for your final portfolio...
ABOUT: this page should include your general artist statement and a separate paragraph that is brief bio about yourself
WORK: this page should include a brief introduction to the work you’ve done in this class - an image and brief description of each project - then you should link to individual pages for each project where we can see more complete documentation and project statements for each project (America’s Most Wanted & All or Nothing) - please include images here, but also feel free to link to more images/media on youtube, google drive, dropbox, etc. if necessary.
BLOG: here you should have at least 10 posts - one for each category - for your online self-guided tour of the art world project. Hopefully, you will also have many other posts that give us some insight into both your aesthetic and research interests.
These should be completes no later than wednesday 12/13 at noon!
*** PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT ALL LINKS ARE WORKING ***
DON’T FORGET
By next wednesday, 12/13, you should have (at least) ten posts - one from each category - on your blogs about your self-guided tour of the art world. Each post should be tagged with the proper hashtag (see categories) so that I can clearly identify them. Before making a post, you should spend at last an hour researching the art world, prompted by the links in the category selected. Follow links as they interest you - google names, places, etc. as they come up. And your response should share the highlights of this journey. Don’t forget to include an image/video!
some artist statement guidelines
Here are a few resources to help you in crafting your artist statements. Please read over these before you sit down to write your statement.

Your completed statements are due on Wednesday 12/13 at noon. You should post them under their own tab titled “ABOUT” on the main page of your tumblr. Please feel free to send drafts my way ahead of time - I’m happy to give you feedback!
All I want from an artist statement is a link between the work and the artist. When this is done honestly, the result is original and authentic. It’s simple, but there is so much resistance that the simplicity is overlooked. Don’t tell me what to see, what it means or how to look. Just show me the bloody but still-beating human heart of the maker. Consider this question: Where in the work that you have made am I seeing something of the human being who created it, if I wanted to look? No one but the artist has this answer...

There have been artist statement generators before, and there will be more to come. In the meantime, however, I've found my favorite artist statement generator of all: 500 Letters.
Please read these two articles on artist statements before our class on Wednesday, 11/29. You will be writing an artist statement (in addition to your final project statement), which will be due when you submit your final portfolios.
