Empathytis

Prototype for an environment (people and space) which enhances mood, emotional contagion, empathy, connectivity and mindfulness between people.

The discussed areas for concept development were creation of empathy in self and others, confronting duality in personality, ambiguity/bittersweetness and mass empathy.

Different parts of Empathytis-

Head : Contains polarized 2-way mirror that distorts vision differently when looked from inside and outside.

Lights : An arduino controlled RGB LED strip that goes inside the head. It changes between shades of blue and green.

Sound : Person who experiences this can confess something sad and it goes in a feedback with sounds of people who have been there in the past. This process is repeated for people who enter in it next.

Video : While one is going through this experience, a camera is recording the eyes of the person which gets added to a screen containing videos from the past.

VirtuaTry

VirtuaTry is an app prototype and a web application plugin that allows you to make a digital 3D version of yourself and try on clothing virtually before buying it either in store or online.

An 8-week project done for Publicis and NYC Media Lab about envisioning and creating an experience for the future of retail.

Initial discussions around themes and experiences were followed by the idea of an application. An initial UI workflow was created which was followed by in-group discussions as well as 4 rounds of user-testing. The updated application and a narrative envisioning this future scenario were presented as final deliverables.

The Smaller Picture

An audio-visual experience of quantum world through generative music and generatively reconstructed narratives.

Drawing a metaphor from quantum world and applying that to structure and reconstruct a narrative, this reconstructed narrative can be replicated by choosing the same set of movies or a completely different set and the result will be different each time.

Done as part of my research on Generative Narratives at Parsons The New School for Design. New music collaboration project with Amay.

Glitch TV

Created in collaboration Jaskirat to celebrate the art of glitch and retro electronics. We picked up the TV from the street.

We built 2 electromagnets, which were mounted over the CRT Tube at the source. The strength of the magnets was varied using an arduino to generate glitch patterns. The video feed was provided by a Raspberry Pi.

Parallel Connections

A paper on issues and possibilities in design, technology, society and person for shaping the future for us and how design can be used to do so. I have focussed on big data, distributed networks and proposed some ideas on links that can connect them.

Infinity Player

For this project, I collaborated with Zac. The idea was to give a more immersive experience and almost a visual interpretation of the depth, quality and class which vinyl players offer.

We etched a song on the infinity mirror using Audacity, Processing, Python and a laser cutter. The color change is being controlled with an Arduino.

Bevvy

An app prototype made for a 24 hour hackathon organised by Pernod Ricard about using technology and design to redefine the drinking experience. The user interface design was minimal and was based on natural language.

This won the runner’s up position at the hackathon.

Step sequencer for generative art and music

This connects to Processing/Ableton Live/any MIDI reading synth. You can play with the knobs to create generative art and music.

I laser-cutted plexiglass and made the design too corresponding to each stage of the step sequencer: hex inverters, frequency divider, shift register, mux/demux and teensy.
