âYeah? That was a very nervous laugh,â Nickel observed, dryly. He briefly raised both eyebrows together, and then let the topic drop fully. âSome people have a hard time finding the door. You told âem it was a speakeasy, right?âÂ
He ran few fingers from his temple into his hair, thinking. At some point, heâd have trim the excessâactually shave, too, for the black tie thing. He could put that off a little while longer. âIf they did bail, maybe you need to find some more adventuresome friends.â He left a pause, just here. âWant me to introduce you?â
âSlightly nervous, Iâd say slightly.â But he allowed the conversation to be steered - Sometimes, Tyler forgot that there were people who knew Benji better than him. But of course Nick did, that was what brothers were supposed to do - Not that Tyler would really know, although heâd imagined his relationship with Jason was close to what it might be like, having a brother.
He nodded. âYeah, gave them detailed instructions and everything. I swear, if I get a text about how theyâre so sorry, but they really needed to do homework, or some bullshit⌠Well, youâd probably be right about that, then.â The point of most of his relationships with friends was stuff like this - He could only really tolerate excuses about schoolwork from Benji, with anyone else, he found it kind of silly. He was doing just fine in school, and he didnât shut himself in every night.
