This tutorial will go in depth for his full voicebank. For a tutorial on his Lite, I recommend Jadzia's tutorial, as it is very helpful for Lite users.
I will also try to make a VOICEVOX tutorial, since that voicebank is much more complicated than others.
I'm just gonna assume you know how to get the full version for SynthV, however you can get the basic editor (limited tracks, etc.) here.
Where do I buy GENBU's voicebank?
Anicute (Not recommended; download codes have been reported to take a while, or even not show up.)
AHS Store (Recommended; download codes show up in your e-mail about a minute or two after purchasing.)
Some notes:
GENBU is a standard voicebank. He doesn't have his own AI autotune.
GENBU's recommended range is:
Normal (No pitch groups enabled): A2 - C#5
Falsetto (F4/F4Soft): C#4 ~ F5
It's recommended to use his voicebank at a BPM between 70 - 200. (To me it doesn't matter, I've used him at higher BPMs)
...What? I'm not giving tuning advice.
Rule of thumb: If the project file you're opening was used with a feminine voice, turn it down an octave. To do this, hit CTRL + A after selecting a note, and then CTRL + D to move an octave down.
It's not really necessary to do this, but recommended ranges are a thing for a reason...!
Genbu also might sound nasal in certain ranges (or pitch groups... more on that later). What I do when this happens is adjust his gender factor by a smidge (0.070 - 0.095 works a lot for me).
Pitch groups!
"Andres, what the hell is that." I'M GETTING THERE.
Pitch groups (called Expression Groups in the editor itself,) are essentially Vocal Modes, but for standard voicebanks. They are super helpful when you want to put a voicebank in a different range. It makes the Standard voicebank less limited.
Sound familiar? These are essentially different ranges, similar to UTAU voicebanks.
I want to make him sing in a different language!
SynthV dictionaries are your best friend. You can even make your own for a different language.
Just be careful, as GENBU does have trouble with syllables that don't end with a vowel.
He sounds happy that his English has improved with a simple phoneme adjustment.
Closing Statements
I wouldn't consider myself the master of GENBU SynthV, but I do like that I adopted this grown ass man ever since Amano Kei abandoned him in 2022. I like using him in every single project I do (Most of my covers are tuned with GENBU in mind before I switch the voicebank to someone else.)
And no, GENBU isn't the best SynthV voicebank, not by a long shot. I love him, but I get the urge to bang my head against the wall after he sings something awkwardly. I get the urge to strangle him (affectionate).
Despite his imperfections, I still love this little bugged voicebank. He was the first voicebank I downloaded when I got my laptop a couple years ago. He's super fun to work with and sounds amazing with proper tuning and mixing. Hell, I think he sounds fine without mixing.
Other than that, I hope this tutorial helped someone! Please use GENBU more I don't want to be the only one using him in 2025. Uh........... stream my covers for more genbu! Here
