they’d made it to the future together, they’d clawed through hell to get to this point. bucky had died twice and kept coming back to him, bc steve was his anchor. nothing else matter as long as they were side by side. their stories were entwined and they deserved to be happy together. to enjoy the 21st century in a way buck couldn’t bc of his captivity and in a way steve hadn’t allowed himself to. to walk thru brooklyn again with their best friend, to learn each others new favorite foods, make new inside jokes, to go to a baseball game. in my head, they did. bc steve had been waiting for the right partner w the same shared life experience, and he’d finally come home

So don't think about Bucky having to be the one to hold Steve back from seeing his mom. Don't think about Steve trying to fight him, telling Bucky he'll never forgive him for this. And don't think about Bucky having to wrestle with Steve, having to hold his best friends frail body against his chest and try to convince him that it won't do anyone any good if he dies too. That Bucky knows hes being selfish, hes being terrible and horrible and Steve has every right to hate him, but he's can't risk losing Steve too. He just can't.
