He had learnt pretty quickly how SVU worked. It was nothing like narcotics and he had stood out. He still felt weird as hell in these three-piece suits, but they were dealing with victims. He got that part and was willing to change his appearance for that. He had left Narcotics and their fast and loose way with the rules for a reason.

His old partner wasn't going to die in vain..

Still, he hadn't told anyone in SVU about that yet. Keeping his cards close to his sleeve was one thing he appreciated that about Munch; he wasn't asking a bunch of personal questions. It had been strictly business, and while he wasn't about to say it out loud, they worked well together.

“Now why would I do that?” Munch protested, lifting his half-full (or rather, half-emptied) mug as proof. It held what was left of his morning tea, which would soon be switched out for coffee. He’d learned bad habits in Baltimore that he’d never quite managed to kick. “That would make me nothing more than a garden variety hypocrite.”

The detective still didn’t know what to make of his new partner. Even in homicide, nobody was ever this rough around the edges. But seasoned as he was, Munch was used to tolerating a partner, and he’d do it again. Not silently, mind you; but enough not to start fistfights.

The parameters established, Munch gave a nod. That had been the plan. Almost skeletal hands opened a file to examine the contents. He made a show of reviewing the contents before filling in his partner. “I think maybe our rapist is a college student. The scarf our victim described, that’s Hudson University colors. Not that I follow college sports. You just pick things up l\iving here. By osmosis. Don’t worry, it’ll happen to you too.”

She tilted her head, hands firmly placed on her hips. "No, I just wanted to feel pretty. Less about me, more about the sourpuss face you've got. Spill."

The idea of dressing up just because was so outside his experience that he still met Lexie’s look skeptically before relenting. “Well, you… look nice.” How was she so good at sweeping away a bad mood? He really should appreciate that more.

Flopping hard on the couch, he took a minute to answer, considering if he should keep it to himself. But Lexie was part of a different group of friends, that's why she was safe to talk to. “I just… I don't get why I'm supposed to choose between my best friend and my girlfriend. Things are bad with Izzie and Callie, like, catastrophically bad, and I don't know what to do.”

"I'm sure they did." Thera replied, with the tone that didn't mock but definitely knew better, "Honest men make a liar's job that much easier." Maybe 'naive' was a better word, or maybe the little one-jet airline was willing to take someone's word as long as the money was paid. Which in turn made the duty fees even more of a nasty surprise.

"However," Thera set the statue back into its box and pulled out, in turn, her wallet and then her Staff ID from the British Museum - noticing the clerk's eyes widen - "I'm telling you, it's not. Therefore this is a novelty item, not an antiquity. Are there any fees on shelf decor?"

The clerk stammered, turned to the list pinned to his wall to check on that, and Thera looked directly at the others and mouthed, "Start the jet." If there turned out to still be a fee (she doubted it) it wouldn't be much and she'd pay it, just to get off the fucking ground. And maybe ask a few questions about who was paying them to fly a fake statue back to Egypt, and why ...

Douglas didn't take offense; Martin might, but he was being kept in check with a glare so obvious even he couldn't miss it. The thing was, they did often cut corners or look the other way, which got them into situations like this, with the not unreasonable logic that some business was better than no business.

Still, no one was thrilled by legal friction, except perhaps the lawyers they couldn't afford to hire. And for once Douglas was content to cede the limelight, not only stand back but let someone else take the credit too. As long as they got off the ground without too much delay, he'd consider the lessened effort its own reward.

He also wasted no time, aiming to shut Martin's gaping mouth and get him moving. "You heard the man, Captain. Start the jet, such as she is." A reference to G-ERTI's condition, but strictly an inside joke— they had a good pilot and a safe pilot, so between the two of them, they handled whatever was thrown at them, even by their own aeroplane.

She doesn't take suggestion or correction easily, either, but that doesn't stop her offering it based on what's in front of her. “Actually I thought you might want to miss that vein,” she says drily as she works on a nearby patch of arm. “Seeing as I'm about to move it.” In surgery, just a millimeter can be life or death. Or in this case, pristine or disfigured appearance. “I need a closer look.”

Sheila was so unhinged... she really thought that kidnapping a kid in general, and one whose mother is a police detective, would somehow end well?? Even if she succeeded (ignoring for the moment the effect on Noah, who is very much old enough to remember Olivia being his mother for his entire conscious life) they'd have to live on the run forever, which isn't as easy as it was once was.

Hello all.. since I have replies to do here (yay!!) I'll see if coffee will coax my brain into doing them.

And not unrelatedly, I've started rewatching Homicide: Life on the Streets since Peacock took away over half of Munch's seasons (no, not bitter about it). In the first episode he keeps insisting he's not Montel Williams and nobody knows who he's talking about. Sorry to be so ignorant but I'm with nobody (and even after looking it up I still don't get what Munch meant by it).

The fact that Erica never got to grow from being biphobic is kind of criminal, actually. I think it was Callie sleeping with Mark that did it more than the idea of being bi in the abstract, although her generally rigid way of thinking also wouldn't help. (Also the fact that she doesn't like Mark... ) But it's already established that she doesn't make friends easily, which would likely translate to romantic partners too, so Erica had both feet on the long-term express and she thought Callie did too.

Erica isn't casual about anything. She's just gone through a revelation, a road to Damascus moment that's changed the way she sees herself and the world, but she doesn't get that what she sees might be different from Callie's vision. So she doesn't understand the need to test out the attraction to men because she's realized she never had it in the first place. And she really doesn't get the impulsive need to do it while supposedly in (what Erica sees as) a committed relationship. It's cheating to her, and it hurts; but Callie being honest about it is a big deal too and allows her to put off her hurt in the moment. It only emerges later when it's compounded with the Izzie situation (and that Callie is defending Izzie).
