WWDC Keynote summary

So here we are, the Keynote is over, and like many expected it was only about Software this time, no hardware.

To make the whole thing easy and fast to read, I will make a list. Why? Because I like lists.

OS X Yosemite, the next big update after Mavericks

AirDrop between OS X and iOS

Smarter Spotlight searches that responds with search results as you write

Receive phone calls on your Mac

iCloud Drive, like Dropbox but iCloud

Redesigned interface with new icons

Improved Safari

Improved mail, send attachments over 20mb with iCloud

Handoff – “Now your Mac knows the last thing you were doing on your iOS device and vice versa. So you can start something on one device and instantly pick it up on another.”

Instant hotspot – Get online on your Macbook by just being close to it with your phone, easier than before

  iOS 8

Photos, shared and synced between all your devices. More ways to edit photos directly.

Messages, record a message and send, take a quick photo, put a name to a group conversation, leave group conversation etc.

You can also answer messages without opening the messages app!!!

Easier way to control your emails in the email app

Family sharing, up to six people can share iTunes, iBooks and App Store purchases. See locations of family members, shared calendar.

Widgets to notification center, even 3rd party ones.

Better spotlight

iTouch can be used in 3rd party apps, through Apples secure system though so nothing is shared

iCloud drive, access iCloud files just like you can do it on OS X Yosemite.

Health – Activity tracker apps, heart rate monitors, and other health and fitness apps can talk to each other and you will have a nice overview of them all.

Receive calls on your iPad just like you can on your Mac, and of course send and receive messages.

Better spotlight searches. Wikipedia entries, places nearby, trending news etc.

3rd party keyboards

  There are more things that I have missed and I might update a bit more but this was a lot of it.

A lot of APIs were also opened and added for developers but I can’t write a list on all that so please check out the developer page at Apple for more information on that.

I enjoyed the Keynote and I think a lot of these new features are really cool. Some have been used in Android for a long time but that doesn’t really matter. Apple tries to do it the right way instead of just putting a bunch of features out there, and I am going to download iOS 8 beta and OS X Yosemite beta to judge for myself.

SPOILERALERT: New leaked photos might be the next OS X

These photos have recently starting to spread all over the internet. Okay, maybe not all over, but in the Apple fanbase and tech news circle. The photos are showing what possibly could be the next OS X, Yosemite, 10.10 or whatever Apple is going to name it. From the first photo it looks like Yosemite!

From the looks of it we can see that the dock has gotten a more flat design to it with a bar just going among the back of all the apps.

The notification center has gotten richer and does now show your calendar, weather, stocks etc. Just like in iOS. We can also see that there is something like the notification center on the left side. In iOS it’s called Control Center, and we might get the exact same thing in OS X.

Safari might also get a new look.

Look at the photos and judge for yourself, in a few hours we will know for reals. Maybe Apple leaked these photos to create more hype?

Apple confirms acquisition of Beats

Like I wrote a while ago, rumors were saying that Apple wanted to buy Beats for 3.2 billion dollars. The deal is done, but the final price is 3 billion.

Tim Cook has confirmed and commented.

Beats co-founder Jimmy Lovine also had a comment which was interesting

I’ve always known in my heart that Beats belonged with Apple. The idea when we started the company was inspired by Apple’s unmatched ability to marry culture and technology. Apple’s deep commitment to music fans, artists, songwriters and the music industry is something special.

It’s hard to know what Apple will do with this exactly but I really don’t think Beats is worth the price at all. I don’t like their headphones because the sound is crap, but hopefully their team together with Apple can create something new that sounds amazing.

Rumors about ARM-based Macs

Will Apple leave Intels cpu’s out of their products and start using the ARM-architecture? Rumors say so. Or at least that Apple has been playing with prototypes like a new iMac, Mac Mini and a 13-inch laptop that had the ARM inside of it.

The same source also says that Apple is working on a new keyboard with a built in Magic Trackpad. I personally would want that.
