The Last of Us Part 1
Finished December 15
Won't go super in depth since its one of the most iconic games of all time already. Quickly though, I felt like the gameplay was just okay, but the writing, the characters, the story, and so much more really carried it. I also watched the show after playing this and for the most part, that really stuck the landing as an adaption. What I do want to get into a bit more is how overblown the hate for this remake is. Having originally played a bit of TLoU Remastered on PS4 back in 2018, the glow up here was immediately apparent. So many people acted like this barely looked any different but that's so far from the truth. Every single environment, all the geometry, decoration, objects, models and so on were remade from scratch. I'll close this off with some comparisons.

Shadow Generations
Finished October 22
It's quite possibly the best 3D Sonic game since the Adventure Era. This is a great game, no asterisks. No "ohh i have to treasure hunt too huh" "oh i gotta do these annoying missions to continue" "i dont really care for classic sonic levels". There is no part of this that you ignore when you come back to the game, like in games like the Adventure titles, Unleashed, or even Sonic Generations itself. Genuinely none of that exists in Shadow Generations.
There are 7 fully 3D stages, which casually take at least 4 minutes to beat each. All of them are bangers, with the weakest one probably being Rail Canyon just for the fact that rail switching in this game is a lot slower than in other games. The 2D stages are also the best a Modern-style console game has ever had. ALL of them slapped. Shadow's gameplay is not a reskin of Sonic. This feels very specifically made for him, and the game takes heavy advantage of his distinct moveset. They made a gameplay style that keeps the core idea of what Sonic is, but made it stick out in its own way. I genuinely want "Shadow" to become its own sub-series now. I really hope they use this development team to make more Shadow, while the main team continues on with Sonic's future titles. While I loved Unleashed, that style of boost gameplay is not something I particularly like a whole lot or want. Frontiers, Dream Team, and now Shadow Generations feel like a brand new type of boost gameplay that I vastly prefer, the slower type of boost gameplay that isn't afraid to slow down when needed. Three games of this style in now, it seems like thats here to stay which is amazing. We need more of this, and I especially want more of this version of Shadow gameplay.
Resident Evil Revelations
Finished October 20
I just found this game insanely boring. The story was kinda bad, and the ending was baffling. Just tells you through text on a black background what happens and then credits. Its worth it if you get it on sale for like $5
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Finished October 17
Earlier this year, after finishing Resident Evil 3 Remake, I tried playing OG RE4. Late into the Castle portion of the game, I quit. I could not get behind the controls while using a controller. I wanted to play the OG game before playing Remake, but I didn't want to rebuy it on PC, and I had already also purchased RE4 Remake on PS5.
RE4 Remake is really good. I was able to enjoy the controls alot more, especially with the addition of gyro aiming. This helped me realize I really should be playing these games on PC, since the controller is my personal biggest issue.
The visuals are incredible in this game. I thought RE2 and RE3 Remake looked great, but this looks like a huge leap. It really shows best playing for yourself instead of screenshots or videos. I really enjoyed the way they tied RE2 into RE4's story alot more. Leon in RE2 and OG RE4 felt so wildly different, it was hard to see them as the same person. Leon in Remake is motivated by his failure to save people in Racoon City, which was such a great touch. This feels like the real, proper sequel to RE2 now. I just really liked this game. I still do prefer the more Metroidvania-type level design of RE2R, and to a lesser degree, RE3R, but I still really enjoyed this. I truly understand now why RE4 is so legendary.
Imma haphazardly post twitter bangers here if y'all don't mind

Final Fantasy XIII
Finished July 18
Honestly had a really good time, until the last few chapters. Shit just nosedived for me personally starting in Chapter 11. Aside from that though, I actually liked it a fair bit. The main cast is all really great. Sazh the absolute goat.

Penny's Big Breakaway
Finished July 10
To be honest, I don't have much to say about this. It's a decent time, but it wasn't anything special. It was fairly buggy though, like clipping through walls multiple times and such. That's about all I can say about this game though, it was alright.
Sonic Dream Team
Finished July 8
Honestly? Way better game than I thought it would be. The level themes (except the first zone) were really creative. I really liked Ego City (Eg-ocity?😉), probably because it gave me a lil bit of a Coruscant vibe, with the mixture of old Roman style architecture and more modern, high tech architecture. The real highlight of this game was the bonus zone that you can unlock after you beat the campaign. These levels were designed so insanely well around each character's moveset. On top of that, the levels were all fairly challenging too. Overall this was a great time. It's really cool to see SEGA Hardlight try and make a full 3D game after over a decade of making Sonic Dash games. I really would love to see them become almost like a Dimps and keep making smaller scale games like this.
Paperball
Finished July 7
Terrible manual camera, and alot of waiting that got frustrating. Besides that, pretty good Monkey Ball-like. I've played a few clones and this was definitely the best by a long shot. Good game.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble
Finished July 5
Honestly it's a banger if you just play it like a normal Monkey Ball game and ignore the missions. Had alot more fun playing that way. This game isnt too crazy, but yknow what, its finally a real come back to Monkey Ball 1 and 2. Good game, dont have much more to say.
