Disney Fairies magazine (party?) outfits. Sorry if somebody has already posted those before.
Funny note: In one of the comics, since Vidia actually get Beck’s dress before her, Beck creates a dress with living butterflies instead!
Kicking and screaming, I love these!
What on earth… ?
This is cool art, and I’ve never seen these costumes before, but I instantly recognized them because some of them seem to be lifted from a 2002 art book of homemade fairy-esque fashion by someone who (as far as I know) was entirely unconnected to Disney. While I don’t have the book with me, which I adored as a child and reread constantly, I was able to view it on the Internet Archive and got some screenshots. Apologies for the low quality, but thing like pull out pieces obviously could not be pulled out.
Beck’s dress has the bodice of the first photo and the skirt of the second. Dulcie and Queen Clarion’s hats are in the next photos. Terence and Tinkerbell’s costumes have heavy similarities, and Queen Clarion’s dress seem to be pretty directly lifted. Insane.
This book was call Fairie-ality and it/the designs were created by Eugenie Bird afaik. I’m shocked that Disney ripped off this artist so blatantly.
Edit: Terence’s hat, Beck’s shoes, and Bess’ shoes are also from the book! There was also a dress bodice that looked very similar to Dulcie’s, but was different enough and generic enough I didn’t photograph it. Considering all the other similarities though I’m now regretting that choice…
Thank you so much for the addition of those images!
@artofdisneyfairies do you happen to know more about this book/the author and what happened back then?!!
