Hey! I’m new to the fandom but I saw on Reddit someone saying that there was huge backlash after RE6 when it came to Ada and Leon’s portrayal and them becoming "canon" and I remember you talking about it a bit but can you explain a bit more? As someone that wasn’t there I’m curious!
from a previous post of mine:
when millennials and gen x'ers look at leon, we see:
- an everyman-turned-hero character
- a macho, hyper-masculine badass wise-cracking smartass
- a classic American action hero type who fights FOR JUSTICE!!!1
- an archetypal "pretty boy" character who's deliberately designed to be sexually appealing to women while losing none of his macho hyper-masculinity (which can come off as kind of eyeroll-worthy to some men who don't think it should matter what a badass like leon looks like)
- an understated but deliberately-designed "playboy"/"skirt-chaser" archetype who appears beside a new Super Hot Chick every single title (and likely tries to sleep with her, at some point)
- an example of modern masculine stoicism, in the sense that he doesn't have emotional outbursts like chris, can take a really bad emotional hit and just keep going, and willingly shoulders the burdens of others so that they don't have to
- an exalted, near-perfect heroic archetype who's made more human by his lame sense of humor, the amount of people who don't take him as seriously as they should, and the number of times women turn him down
our perception of him was formed from OG RE2 and OG RE4 and was reinforced in Degeneration, Darkside Chronicles, and Damnation. RE6 felt like a betrayal because RE6 leon wasn't a smartass, had surrendered his playboy status in favor of fixating on ada, was frequently irritated/annoyed by helena's family problems, lacked a sense of humor, and was treated like an ultimate authority and a perfect hero by other characters (primarily helena and sherry). the things that we loved about him were absent and/or destroyed outright.
basically RE6 destroyed everything we loved about leon's character because every decision he made in that game was fucking stupid, and it was all because he was acting out of blind devotion to ada instead of
you know
being leon.
it was basically a case of: if leon has to stop being leon in order for the romance to work, then we don't want the romance.
at the end of the day, we wanted leon to be leon.
we valued him over her, and him over the relationship. so the series took the direction of focusing on leon and cutting ada out entirely (or as much as possible).
that's why it always makes me laugh when i see zoomers go "BUT THE FANS WANT ADA/AEON"
not the fans who matter. LMAO the fans who matter (aka the ones who have spent 30 years and hundreds-to-thousands of dollars, individually, to actually BUY AND PLAY THE VIDEO GAMES IN THE SERIES) are getting what we explicitly asked capcom for.
which is leon without ada.
aeon was killed because my generation demanded it.
I think I'm coming to realize that the biggest disconnect between my generation and the current generation when it comes to character perception is that... for some reason, Gen Z seems to be under the impression that characters need to be shown as actively wrestling with negative emotions (sadness, fear, panic, anger, anxiety, paranoia, etc.) in order to be perceived as deep, whereas my generation knows that they don't.
Like, I keep seeing Gen Z claim that OG Leon is "shallow" as a character compared to Remake Leon, and that's just not true.
It sort of goes hand-in-hand with the whole "every single person who lived through Raccoon City must necessarily have intense trauma/PTSD from it" thing that Zoomers insist on.
And it also ties into my whole thing about how Leon embodies the ultimate positive form of masculine stoicism.
I found this amazing quote from a fellow analyst:
Depth is not a quality you sprinkle onto a character. It is the residue left behind by difficult decisions. If those decisions are absent or inconsequential, no amount of psychological elaboration will compensate. The character will remain thin not because they lack dimension, but because the story has not demanded anything of them.
OG Leon's depth comes from the way he engages with the people and problems in front of him. Shit obviously bothers him (OGRE4 Leon constantly grilling Ada, Damnation Leon defying orders and hanging up on Hunnigan, etc.), shit obviously affects him emotionally (OGRE4 Leon screaming people's names when they die, Vendetta Leon wallowing in self-pity, etc.) -- but it's the way he responds to these things that gives him depth.
It goes back to his stoicism -- to his ability to keep moving forward despite emotional setbacks -- his ability to stay focused only on the things that he can control without letting external forces/circumstances slow him down or stop him.
He's seen as "badass" by my generation because he does register these things emotionally -- but then keeps his head up and marches onwards undeterred. He can't control what the government did to him and Sherry, so he tries to make the best of the situation regardless. That's what made OG RE4 so striking. He's in an awful situation with the government, but there's nothing he can do about it, so he does his best to have fun.
And you can apply that to other aspects of his character, too.
He can't bring people back from the dead, so he does all that he can to get justice for them (as seen in Luis, Mike, and President Benford).
When facing issues of right and wrong, he always chooses what's just -- even if what's just isn't necessarily what's most ethical (Damnation is a great example of this).
And in the rare moments where he does let himself relax enough to feel his feelings fully, he picks himself right back up again and keeps moving, even when it's hard (Vendetta is a great example of this).
And he does all of this without ever losing sight of what's important (people's lives), losing his sense of humor, or blunting his kindness.
My generation harps on Leon being a "badass" not because he's a SUPER TOUGH ACTION HERO GUY -- but because Leon is shown to carry the weight of his duty and the weight of the dead without being slowed down by them.
Chris gets slowed down by it all. In some cases (like the start of RE6), he actually slows to a stop because of it. Leon doesn't. Ever.
And so when I see Gen Z clamoring for Leon to have a full-blown, massive mental breakdown, I'm just like... So you don't actually like Leon as a character. You just wish that Chris had Leon's face (and possibly also shipping potential). Got it.
After reading through everything we know so far about the game, i for the life of me, cannot imagine or comprehend any other *significant* reason as to why Leon is in the game and is there alongside Grace, i can't, maybe i'm dumb or my brain is fried but i can't come up with any other explanation but then again, maybe i am putting too much faith and hope into this team's writing so, you never really know.It also feels like the more we are getting closer to the release the more it's dragging out lol.
Well, I think that's become a sort of... backwards way of thinking about it. Now that Nakanishi has revealed to us that, after the co-op build was scrapped, RE9 started off as a Leon-only game?
We shouldn't be thinking of this in terms of "Why is Leon there with Grace?"
We should be thinking of this in terms of "Why is Grace there with Leon?" What does she bring to his story/character? Because she was added in specifically to complement him, since Nakanishi felt that the game wouldn't work with just him alone.
So, let's take a look back at the impact that Leon's previous title partners have had on him/the utility they've provided -- because I'm sure that Grace isn't going to retread a path that's already been walked by someone else.
Ada (RE2make): Tests and falsifies his naive worldview; forces him to learn the lesson of cautious mistrust and reasonable suspicion
Ashley (RE4make): Redeems his past failures in Raccoon City; re-teaches him the value of trust and teamwork after Ada's disruption
Claire (ID, Degen): Acts as a hard check on Leon's sense of duty with her sense of compassion; balances his reckless impulsivity with measured practicality
Buddy (Damnation): Puts a human face on those who resort to using BOWs; challenges Leon's pre-conceived notions on who should be sacrificed and who should be saved
Helena (RE6): Acts as a mirror for Leon's past inexperienced naivete; gives voice to all of his poor judgement impulses for the specific narrative purpose of challenging them himself
Chris (Vendetta): Serves as a reinforcing validation of all of Leon's career choices; acts as propulsion during a time in which Leon's focus is losing inertia
Jill (DI): Serves in the role of Leon's absolute equal; allows him to accept infection and death, because he knows that there's still someone capable of continuing the fight
So... suffice to say, we can expect Grace to be none of these things. I think that acknowledging Helena and Jill's roles is especially important, because a combination of them seems to be what most of fandom expects Grace to be. But she can't be, because Helena and Jill have already done it.
So... what's missing? What can Grace offer to Leon that no one else has yet?
I'm not saying that she is going to give him these things, but here's a list of potential options:
A reason to choose to live, rather than looking for an opportunity to die (or, another way of looking at it: comfort enough to walk away from the battle alive, rather than thinking that his only way out is death)
A reason to love himself, rather than living solely for the benefit of/to the service of others
Marrying the grounded reality of BOWs existing with a genuine optimistic hope for the future (removes his defeatist cynicism)
Breaking the seemingly endless cycle of outbreak -> cleanup -> corruption -> outbreak
Offering a different perspective for how to approach corruption and outbreaks. Not duty, not compassion, not practicality, not heroism. Some secret other thing that none of the others have exhibited thusfar
And... for most of these, she would have to be someone really special in order to achieve them. A random stranger can't do it.
And I'm not entirely sold on the idea of the kid of a dead friend being able to do it, either.

i made one of these for connor and i just found this in my drafts from a year ago. i meant to go back into the game to take more screenies for kara and add more to this post but i forgot and now my game files got reset and the screenshots got nuked so i'll just post this as is u_u; (i really should replay the game to unlock all the models again)
details i noticed about kara's model (uniform edition)
firstly, i kinda love her boots shoes situation. tho the fabric is giving sock shoe, i can't say no to a chelsea boot jsfklsjdflsjdl. also!!! i never noticed how the front of her pants have that front seam and the hem has a lil triangle cutout along the seam. it's hella cute. (the rest of the pants are NOT as cute tho)
it's very practical for cyberlife to have reinforced the knee area of the pants. if you're a house android made for clean-up it makes sense that you'd be kneeling down to clean floors and bathtubs and toilets and etc. the two types of fabric textures is an interesting choice tho. the inner fabric doesn't seem like it would be that waterproof which kinda seems less practical.
the built-in clear apron makes sooooo much sense. tho it's kind of a wonder why the entire outfit isn't mostly this material. cause it's unlikely androids are washing their own clothing that often and with that clear plastic apron i don't think this kind of material that can just be thrown into a washing machine. so it kinda feels like it would be better for the whole thing to be covered in plastic to prevent it from getting dirty since it would be just a simple wipe down. it's not like they cyberlife is worried about how comfortable it would be for an android to wear u_u; the only reason it's probably built this way is for the aesthetic
honestly the more i look at the dress, the more i think it is a pretty cute cut and design (minus the apron). but i have no idea what these little metal things on her side and back are supposed to be. there's either some fashion history i'm missing that gives context to it or like maybe there's magnetic tools/attachments that are like add-ons for your android??? either way idk what tf is going on with those things.
biggest thing to note here is that her cyan triangle android identification thingy is CRACKED (fuck you todd)
just appreciating her profile here. kara is so pretty. tho i do wonder how the heck her hair-do works. also, it's pretty obvious to me that each android has like a default hairstyle they come with. but i wonder if humans ever tell their android to mix it up a bit and try on different hairstyles. kinda like a dress-up doll. there's no way there isn't some rich human out there using their androids just to dress them up.
okay and last thing, i just wanna shower some appreciation for her neck freckles!!! they're so cute <3333
i originally was gonna have way more screenshots to analyze but (insert same reasoning as the top of post).
anyway, if i ever get the motivation to crack open the game again i'll probably do one for markus. he's got sooooo many outfits tho it's gonna be hard to choose which ones to overanalyze first.

Requiem free cam finds are actually going to be the death of me because what do you mean after surviving countless apocalypses and nearly succumbing to the virus, Leon stood there looking around sadly, watching the walls come tumbling down and realized he was going to die in Raccoon City after all, buried under the rumble where it'd take days to find his remains, unable to say goodbye to his daughter (who was infected with the same virus and he was trying to save) because he had no service, so he resigns himself to death. And then he chooses to comfort Grace in his last moments because despite it all, he'd failed once again, and now Grace was going to die with him.
Between the way he shakes his head when Grace says "there's no way out," and the dejected look on his face, you can tell he truly thought that was the end. And that makes Leon's comment about Chris at the end all the more interesting because imagine how stressed Chris would've been. Leon had finally reached out for help and Chris was almost too late.
since early day lore keeps being referenced, here are some good early qsmp lore vods to watch if you're ever curious about what all went down:
any day 1 pov:
really good introductory content (obviously), even for the lore. there’s a lot of cutscenes from that specific day iirc as well which i always think are beneficial to watch! also everyone’s first reactions to cucurucho/osito bimbo are fucking hilarious
roier, day 4:
explains his and osito bimbo’s dynamic, they spend a large part of the day together.
roier, day 5: the betrayal
the day of spreens betrayal, self explanatory. this is also the day we get the book from osito bimbo where it calls roier "0037"
any day 7 pov: egg's introduction
morse code transmission about an “experiment,” the day the original eggs got adopted, shows how the attitude toward the eggs has changed since then, possibly could help explain some of the family dynamics?? at least how they function and treat the kids
roier, day 10:
osito bimbo makes it's return but now it's different, (sort of) the day cucurucho officially takes osito bimbo's place
slime or roier, day 16: tilin's death
the day of tilin's death, ultimately had a lot of impacts on various characters on the island like slime, roier, and quackity, for example.
slime, day 20: avenging juanaflippa
slime tries to get flippa another chance at life by forcing a reset of all the eggs lives, meaning he goes after and targets the other player's eggs.
day 21: "save the baby" quest
aka the first egg kidnapping/disappearance (continued in day 22 due to server maintenance). a rescue mission given to the islanders via egg tasks to go retrieve their eggs!
day 22 (slime, mariana, roier, bbh, quackity, foolish, jaiden, philza): juanaflippa's custody trial and revival
really fucking funny but also a part of the servers history that i feel like got brushed over too fast. confirms the federation can give extra lives to the eggs if they are so willing and some other stuff.
luzu, day 24: final (physical) arin appearance
explains why arin was there, what his purpose is, and how the codes are related to him.
can also been seen in foolish and bbh's vod from this day.
foolish, day 26:
introduction to leo’s “friends” and a few island entities, the founding of the theory bros (now ordo theoritas)
which can also be seen in max and bad’s pov that day!
day 27: the funeral
a funeral is held for all the dead eggs (trump, tilin, and flippa) and i believe it's the first time the federation allows parents to talk to their children after their death.
for this day, most pov's do go to the funeral service, but only parents of the dead eggs (quackity, slime, mariana, and maxo) get to see their children.
anyones pov, day 34: “the countdown begins, 6 days left.”
codes intercept the ducks transmission (again?) and alert the parents that the eggs will die/disappear in 6 days. we know now this obviously isn't true but still a lore-ish day
roier, day 34: even more osito bimbo content!
the day when osito bimbo tells roier more about the federation, such as the existence of the "host" and how it has a specific set of duties it must follow/complete.
quackity, day 36: quackitys interrogation & las casualonas debut
disguised, roier and vegetta interrogate quackity about his plans regarding the eggs (which iirc was a rumor started by roier saying he was going to murder them) and the island.
maxo, day 50: sofias creator visits maxo
important for current lore seeing as the person who gave him said instructions is now known to be a part of the revolution etoiles was recruited into.
I find it does a disservice to the complexity of Schlatt and Quackity's relationship when people portray it as one-sided.
Part of the reason Quackity liked Schlatt was because of the destruction, part of the very same thing that made him leave him. He liked that he was ruthless and wanted to destroy Wilbur's vision of Manburg because that was exactly what Quackity himself wanted to do. He encouraged Schlatt to exile Wilbur and Tommy and cheered on when they ran. It was only once Schlatt turned towards 'their' side, towards Quackity and Tubbo and the cabinet that he realized that maybe it had gone too far. He had a hand in the destruction and he reveled in it; it took him a while to realize that it had maybe been a mistake.
And at that point Schlatt felt betrayed because in his eyes he'd had Quackity on his side until all of a sudden Quackity was against him and he didn't realize how and why it had changed, especially incapacitated as he was.
Dude c!Slime died and came back - I think more *normal* than he was before. Like ofc he seemed all wrong, and at first I had just brushed it off as a result of maybe whatever Purpled had told him after he was kidnapped
But thinking about it more?
I think he’s just stopped hiding.
Maybe all his golly-ness, permanent smile and silly voice, was just him trying to be human. I mean. After his death he sounded less lively. Less human.
Maybe his disguise… worked after all.
Slime truely did succeed in seeming more human. More open and happy, sure he was *oddly* happy and cheery. But he was already odd so, what’s one small thing? But that as well was probably an act. If he’s been watching for so long he’s surely seen the effects a happy person can have on others. People were kinder and less violent towards people like Ghostbur, or Ranboo. People were nicer to those like Quackity’s before they got mean and cold. Charlie saw cheerfulness. So he mimicked that. And it worked to keep him alive
He thought everyone knowing he wasn’t human would be his downfall. And maybe it would have been - would Q have ever trusted Slime if he showed up clearly spying on him within his walls, with a dead expression and cold yet calm voice? No. Quackity wouldn’t have trusted him - and he probably would have thought Slime’s lack of knowing basically everything as some sort of joke
But instead, Quackity was met with a silly cheerful guy with a big smile - who seemed full of innocence as he tried his best to understand the world around him. Even if he didn’t know what simple things like snow were
And in truth part of that innocences was there.
But if he’s wasn’t trying to be human… would anyone have noticed?
If he didn’t show innocences or cheerfulness the same kind that people like Ghostbur had, would they have hesitated to kill him when they found him snooping around in their walls and spying one them? No.
Slime’s disguise worked. Somewhat. And Quackity just helped him in being more human.
Now Slime doesn’t need to pretend to be happy. Now he doesn’t need to look human

to start things off, this is my own interpretation of his dialogue. i explained how i feel about the stream here in this post. going off of that, i am going to break down the way quackity (who, for clarification sake i'll just refer to as alex) interpreted him. this is gonna get into random theories and probably get like, a little personal and im going to sound crazy but im also autistic and super invested with a bunch of free time... but i think the whole way this stream was carried out had a double meaning to it, and i will examine it here. not proofread, we 're going in raw. so, let's begin with...
Section 1: The Different Personalities of the Quackities
for starters, i want to examine the personalities of each character. obviously, im not taking much (aside from a few bits) into account from the other streams. this was all carefully crafted in one stream to get each persona down, rather than on-the-fly acting. each one has a sort of "archetype" to dissect.
q!quackity, who is quiet, reserved, skittish - yet smart and observant. he uses longer words, and spends more time observing the conversations, then jumping in for the "kill"
k!quackity, who is battered from the betrayal hes gone through, he feels hurt yet he doesnt feel anger. its internalized, he doesnt trust the others, however he mentions that they need to build trust to get out of the "cube"
ln!quackity, who is extroverted, boisterous, the physical incarnate of a bruised ego. he holds his head high not realizing his neck is always exposed, ready for someone to rip him to shreds if they hit the right vein. he's an asshole, making fun of the others, holds himself proudly on his achievements. but he's the only one that cries. q!quackity is anxious, but he doesn't cry. ln!quackity does.
and... alex. a self-proclaimed introvert, who is kind and observant, who forces himself to get out of his comfort zone, something he called a "finish line." a writer, a director, someone who loves telling stories. and this one, happens to be a story of different personas of his, with one being killed off.
and with that, we get into the topic of what i believe the stream represents. if you'll join me for a long read, i think this stream represents his growth as a person and a content creator, in a very extreme and especially vulnerable way.
Section 2: Pre-Quackities Dialogue
an interesting point about ln!quackity is that his dialogue is very turbulent. he goes from being confident to anxious and scared in a moment's notice.
from...
Slime! Was this you? Did you do this? I didn't mean to do this- the the.. I wasn't… malfunction! An explosive went off! I don't know where I am! I might've done some [stupid] stuff, but it's not- it's not fair to pin it on me. You saw it- you saw it- you saw what everyone did to me…
at first, he's very confused. a topic he brings up later is how he always wins, or rather how the house always wins. he succeeded in killing himself, thus the surprise. he didn't really mean to succeed, he thought he'd fail just like all the other times. that's what he's used to.
then...
I don't know who you are, and you certainly don't know who I am either. […] If you have any answers for me, just let me know, please. Alright fine- whoever put me here, get me out! Or just kill me! That was the point of what I was trying to do!
his ego pops in - "you certainly don't know who i am either" weighing his importance. he can't die, he's just so vital for his country. his carefully crafted country. but he can't stand not knowing what actually happened - did he finally succeed? for once in his entire life? no, surely not. he wants to get out - he didn't really mean to kill himself. just one more chance, he wants. but if he can't have one more chance, he just wants it to be over. either keep fighting and fighting or finally give up, even if you just succeeded for the first time in your life.
finally to...
We can make a deal, alright? Let's do a little bit of gambling, let's make a deal! […] You let me out of here, I… do you want me to do good deeds? I'll do good deeds! […] I'll do it, just let me go… just give me a sign…
"ha! gambling, casinos, money! that's my personality! you guys know me, mr. casino man! ring any bells yet?? you guys know that's what i'm all about!" he cries. that's where his power is held - material possessions, easy wins, his comfort zone. something he can easily control. he tries to paint himself as a "better" version of himself by offering his material possessions, anything to save his ass. something he can live without, something he's comfortable losing because he'll just gain it back double in the end.
Section 3: Pre-Monologue
the first thing ln!quackity says to k!quackity - apart from being taken aback by being called a gringo - is
A foreigner?! Where are you from?
now this might come off as one of the farther reaches in this post, but i feel like this was mean to represent ("this" as in, the way ln!quackity treats k!quackity as a whole) the switch to spanish content that alex did. i feel like ln!quackity is very offput by k!quackity because it was a hard switch for alex to make, given how people in the public - and in private - treated this switch. throughout the stream, ln!quackity treats k!quackity with ambivalence - not with hatred or disgust, but also with an underlying fearful tone - as he does not understand him when he speaks spanish. however, ln!quackity does speak spanish. he spoke spanish all the time. hell, the casino is called el palacio (which you can see on the signs inside), we got el rapids, mexican l'manburg, flirting with schlatt... this is just a front. he just doesn't want to communicate, even acknowledge him speaking to him. his ego gets in the way, not wanting to acknowledge this. q!quackity does not speak spanish, this was clear given the lore of qsmp with elquackity. however, ln!quackity is known as bilingual. so why would he try to hide that part of him? you tell me.
You see? I was also betrayed! And actually I was the one doing the torturing, but I have the better story here.
"hah look at me im so badass! who gives a fuck if you went through so much shit! i also did that shit but to someone else! that also kinda happened to me but who cares!" says the deeply traumatized individual who perpetuates a cycle of abuse.
Tone it fucking down. You don't know who you're speaking to.
he says this directly after being called out by the other two. he, again, deems himself as more important. he's the badass one, he's the one that is more "successful," he gets all the fame and credit. thus, when someone tries to tell him that he's full of shit, he immediately puts up his defenses - the ones he's been crafting for all his life, through the endless amount of trauma he's gone through. did he ever back down? show emotions? no, he hasn't. he's always just been a powerhouse. even when his friends and partners betrayed him, he used that to fuel his drive, not knock him down.
I win. That's my job. My job is to make people think they win. I'm a multimillionaire because I run an extremely successful casino business. I also am the president of the richest country in my world. But you know, the more success, the more people want to kill you. And if I'm here right now it's because they succeeded - although I do think the people responsible might be dead soon as well, because if I truly am dead, then they fucked up. So yeah I'm not worried about it at all. Just a bunch of cowards that stormed my casino, probably shot me, they'll get caught.
here he goes again, flaunting his achievements. whenever someone tries to wiggle through the cracks of his ego, he spits out the same recycled speech about his achievements. everyone wants him, everyone wants what he has. but does he truly want it all? is it to make up for what he had lost, or maybe it's to hide his emotions or his insecurities? will they all be drowned out by material possessions? "the more success, the more people want to kill you," so, himself, since that's who killed him in the end? with how much he's been gaining, does that mean that his will to live dwindled too as he got everything he ever wanted? but of course, this is all one big lie to cover up the fact that he was the one with a bounty on his own head.
Q!Quackity: If you are as successful as you say you are, I would imagine that you would already be on edge for someone trying to kill you. […] so how exactly did you inflict your own death?
bonus! with the context above, i feel like q!quackity picked up on his suicidal tendencies, and is thus asking, "hey, since you have it all and i kiiinda feel like we all killed ourselves here, and you said the more successful you are the more people wanna kill you, doesn't that mean you wanna kill yourself?"
Section 4: The Monologue
Fine. You wanna know how I got here? I fucking destroyed it all, I fucking did it. I fucking did it. I sat on my fucking throne and I lit it all on fire and it was fucking beautiful. You know why? Because you can't trust nobody. You can't fucking trust nobody. Alright… alright… I come from a world where you can't trust nobody. Your neighbour will backstab you for a piece of bread if he has to. There are no friends where I came from, okay? And people will sell you out in a fucking second. I tried it all, I tried politics, I tried businesses, and I never won. You know what made all those fail? You know what made every fucking attempt of mine fail? Trust! You can't trust people! They will kill you! So if I can't win, I did what I had to do.
the first half of the monologue is all about being betrayed. "how did i get here? / i destroyed it all / it was beautiful" for someone who prides himself in his material possessions, this doesn't feel like he'd be happy about getting rid of it all. his entire country, what he loved. las nevadas is his comfort zone. that's why he was confined to it, he never left, nobody entered, truly. sure he had some of his friends, but they betrayed him in the end. he ended up hurting them and they left, or they hurt him regardless.
this is where alex comes into play. this monologue was intentional, this was raw and vulnerable. it represents ln!quackity, yes. but, underlying is alex throughout it all. it's not a hidden fact that he's had a lot of people that ended up betraying him, and others in his life as well. so many people took advantage of his trust and kindness. they wanted to commodify him, use his fame, get a bit of clout, get his money, all for themselves. ln!quackity didn't want to be on top of the world, he rose so high up that from below everything looks so small and lost sight of where he was. this represents the ego. it's so easy for your ego to get ahold of you, but when you're so high up, you get knocked down, all the way to your death...
I fabricated my wins, I created my own country, I built my circumstances. Me! Nobody else! Because nobody else thinks like I do! Nobody can! So there comes a point where it's over, at some point you fucking lose.
the aforementioned fall. las nevadas was his comfort - the only place where nothing could go wrong. everything went his way, and only his. the house always wins, it's his comfort zone. he crafted it himself. "nobody else thinks like i do / nobody can" represents his internal struggle. his insecurities that he had to build four walls and a roof over, hidden away from sight in a city of different buildings. he thinks hes the only one that feels this way, he doesnt think anyone can feel the amount of pain he does. life is a chore for ln!quackity, he chugs through it and never once could he rest. but, he finally got to. and now that he has it all... what else is there left? his insecurities and shame that he trapped himself in with all this time. he's forced to sit with them, ponder, grow attached to them yet still hide them from everyone. nobody can know how he feels, nobody can know what he thinks. he never opened up, he never got in touch with his emotions and thus
My partner, my great business partner… I built him, piece by piece, I gave him the personality that I wanted! He learned from me, he is who he is because of me! Yet he has the audacity to abandon me? To abandon what I built? To defy me? He called me a bad person and guess what? I am a bad person. And I'll fucking own it til the day I die. Everything gets destroyed, I'm not gonna wait for a fucking traitor to put me in my grave, that's my JOB. So yeah, I inflicted it, I'm here because of me. I'm here because of me, nobody else. *starts crying*
this is where it gets tricky. my personal interpretation that fits with the theme is that slime represents alex. ln!quackity - or rather, his ego - molded slime into what he is - a copy of ln!quackity. a hollow imitation of the ego. ln!quackity made slime into precisely that. he was a blank slate, he had so much power over him, and thus he finally had someone who could think like him, without the pain that ln!quackity felt because slime felt none. not until ln!quackity hurt him - his own ego hurt alex, in this sense. the fame, his career had hurt him.
"to abandon what i built / to defy me" taking a step back to keep your ego in check, to finally realize what matters in life, is an act of defiance. to humble yourself, to realize you're nothing more than a person that feels hurt by his environment (calling back to: "I might've done some [stupid] stuff, but it's not- it's not fair to pin it on me. You saw it- you saw it- you saw what everyone did to me…" which he said when he was alone, begging for his life, for a second chance to go back to where he felt safest) it was such a strong revelation that it made ln!quackity cry. finally, he could cry.
ln!quackity, in his own eyes, is perfect. he's what everyone wants to be. money, fame, achievements... but the moment he realizes hes hurt he comes back down from his pedestal. he's not the badass everyone wants him to be, he's not the king of the land, he's scared and sensitive. he just wants to be loved, but every time he is, he gets hurt. so why love when you can hurt? that's why he's so rude and abrasive. because why love when hurting is easier? hurting is the norm, hurting is comfort. las nevadas is a nation that encapsulates nothing but pain.
Where do you guys think you are? What is this to you, just a little game? Just a little more entertainment? Look around us, look at this, look at this sick joke, we're puppets! They think it's real! None of this is! And maybe that's the game, we just need to play it! Who's it gonna be, huh? What am I meant to do? How do I win today's game? I'm not gonna give these bastards a show, I want out!
obligatory "who do you think we're actually talking about here?" fourth wall-breaking segment. you should be able to piece it together here. ln!quackity doesn't want to be part of the show anymore - q!quackity and k!quackity run it now.
Section 5: Post-Monologue and Closing Thoughts
Oh my god, oh my god… Okay… I'm alive- I'm alive… I'm alive, I'm alive… What am I doing? What am I doing? Okay… I need to… I need to leave, I need to get out of here, I need to walk out, I need to walk out…
wait, ln!quackity is alive? he's not hurt? he's... alive? hm. that must've all been in his head. a near death experience, some divine intervention... maybe he does get a second shot! "i need to get out of here..." he wants to get out of the comfort zone, but... letting the ego out, where he's going to suffer? let ln!quackity, the character built on legacy, suffer in a place where he has nothing? the outside? where he wouldn't even dare to-
Slime: Looks like everything is running well.
Yeah. Everything's going pretty… pretty great.
Slime: You look so tired.
I uh… yeah, yeah I uh, I am.
Slime: I came back to see you one last time. I didn't like how we had to end.
Yeah, no uh… I thought about it, no hard feelings and you know what… you were right actually, this time you taught me some valuable lessons.
Slime: After I left, I learned a lot. More than I ever thought there was to know. From more people that I ever thought there were.
That sounds great.
Slime: I came here to say goodbye, Quackity. It felt… important.
Where are you going? Are you going somewhere?
Slime: I want to go see it, Quackity. Everything belong this land. I don't think I belong here anymore.
Wow, yeah. You deserve it, wow… look at you. Traveling the world, I'm excited for you.
Slime: I've learned all I can from this place, Quackity. I'm very excited to go. And maybe even now, someone or something can learn from me.
Wow, well yeah. Stay uhm, stay safe man. And remember, don't trust too many people.
Slime: Quackity, thank you for teaching me what it's like to be human.
Yeah… thanks.
Slime: Goodbye, Quackity from Las Nevadas.
he realizes the pain is what makes people alive. you can reconcile with it, you can embrace it, you can live with it. slime was confined to las nevadas for so long that he learned how to live. why can't ln!quackity? what makes slime different? ln!quackity has been immersed in nothing but pain and suffering... and k!quackity too! q!quackity! they are all fine, they can do amazing things, but... they have nothing. they lost it all, but why was ln!quackity the one that's stuck? why did he finally crack?
it's because they love. and slime, well, he loves the world. he loves learning, teaching about life. he has a passion, he wants to experience life. he wants to be free. ln!quackity never wanted to be free. he wanted a place to call his own. with slime leaving... he has las nevadas all to himself. everything he ever wanted, all the money in the world, yet he's alone. he was never loved, only used. it's just a hollow tomb. it was built as an homage to people he loved, but they never loved him. nor did he love himself. all it stands to be is just a reminder that ln!quackity will never be loved.
"you look... so tired."
"yeah... i uh- i am."
he doesn't have to keep fighting. he doesn't have to keep relishing in pain. he's happy that slime is traveling the world, thanks to him. he took bits and pieces of ln!quackity - not everything - but just enough to keep his chin high. he is his own person, using the lessons that ln!quackity taught him. slime is ln!quackity's legacy. after the conversation with his other two selves, and with slime in the real world, he realized that in order for him to be at peace, he doesn't have to keep on hurting. the pain that he shared with slime, as the lessons he taught him, inspired slime to be his own person. the pain that ln!quackity went through is what made slime realize that he, too, is human. relishing in pain and not using that to keep going makes you a victim to your own surroundings. the pain becomes comfort, and you can never leave. it's nothing more than a tomb.
and thus, the final lines said are:
"quackity, thank you for teaching me what it's like to be human."
"yeah... thanks"
slime taught him how to be human as well. and to be human is to not let pain consume you and to keep forward. make amends with it, keep it in your back pocket. those are memories, it's part of your legacy. but what the other quackities could do that ln!quackity couldn't, is remind themselves that they can be better.
q!quackity, though skittish in nature, is observant and uses his knowledge to get under ln!quackity's skin and finally make him snap and realize his emotions. q!quackity represents intellect, even if he is naĂŻve at the same time.
k!quackity, just as smart as q!quackity, is a fighter. he is observant, but he doesn't use that as much to his advantage as he has strength to back him up. he is strong and he knows it, he can lead a revolution, he is strategical. less naĂŻve than q!quackity, he's more cautious of the posing threat that ln!quackity is. q!quackity helps him as his first instinct, showing that the two work together in tandem naturally.
with both sides working together in harmony, where does ln!quackity come in? he represents arrogance, denial of his emotions, his bolstering ego... there is no room for that to grow as a person. he had to die. the room falls silent as he kills himself, no protests. and, q!quackity and k!quackity will make it out alive. they will be coming back. which shows that they do work together to get out. not by killing themselves, but allowing themselves the best parts of each other.
so, as a finale... what does this mean as a whole? i think, although alex really loves ln!quackity, i think this stream was meant to show his journey as a person. he has said he is very grateful for what he has and where he's gotten, and i think keeping yourself humble and counting your blessings is something that you have to grow into. when you're young, you do stupid mistakes. you're naĂŻve, you trust too easily and people take advantage of that. at the end of the stream, ln!quackity says
"don't trust too many people"
as opposed to what he said earlier, talking about himself:
"you know what made all those fail? [...] trust! you can't trust people! they kill you!"
without letting people in, ln!quackity was his own demise. he never learned how to trust, how to love, and thus he could only die alone in the end. but, slime can. he will learn how to love, how to care for, and how to trust others. don't be naĂŻve, but don't be alone, otherwise you will be your own demise in the end.
and thus, this stream was a way to show alex's journey as a person. he said that he was really counting his blessings and being thankful for everything in his life. he can't redo the past few years, but he can move forward with the lessons he learned. that's something he has been talking a lot about lately, and i think this was his own way of interpreting it through characters he loves so dearly. he had to kill off his pride to grow. moving on is the hardest part, and what's even harder is learning how to begin again after everything. but, at the end of the year and going into the next, he will face troubles. he will face challenges.
but he will grow and learn, as he is human, as we are human. we all feel pain, as well as love. we need to learn, we need to grow. and we cannot shy these away from each other - they need to balance each other out and work in unison, as they should.
I saw someone ask about your take on c!sam and I think it’s very cool :D
Now I wanted to ask what’s ur take on c!quackity!
It's actually pretty similar to my take on Sam! They're fueled by slightly different motivations and have wildly different personalities, but when you strip them down to the basics, they're just angry little men trying to feel big.
Quackity is deeply insecure regarding just about everything. He's not tall enough, strong enough, smart enough, and worst of all, flat as a board. He's always felt this way about himself, but the treatment he received from other server members only proliferated his insecurities. He overcompensates for this with being loud, charismatic, and coming off confident when he's really anything but. He runs for election with Schlatt because he wants to feel powerful, and we all know how that goes. He feels weak, stupid for trusting Schlatt, angry about everything that happened to L'manburg and so he acts completely intelligently and rationally and joins the party hunting the most powerful person on the server. And then fights said most powerful person one and one and gets his ass handed to him. Which just makes him more insecure as it makes him feel weak for losing, stupid for fighting, and ugly now that his face is permanently scarred.
He wants to feel powerful, in control, and confident, so he makes Las Nevadas. It's a large, flashy, sprawling country with tall towers and casinos. It's to make people look at him and think about how powerful he is - leader of the richest, most impressive country, which makes him just as amazing as it, of course. His vengeful streak also stems from insecurity. He wants to feel strong, but when people so easily wrong him, he feels weak again and lashes out in quests for vengeance and power that are quite frankly incredibly stupid. Especially torturing c!Dream and manipulating Purpled - he's too blinded by greed, fury, and arrogance to realize how much he's messing up. That he's digging his and his best friend's grave because he was too concerned with feeling superior to realize the higher he was the farther he was going to fall. I think he's a well written character and good tragic villain with a very satisfying arc and ending. Rest in pieces c!Quackity, you could have been missed.
