Tumble Mix 7 - Conducta
After our last belting mix from Lenkemz we thought it was going to be very difficult to top, but by gosh has Conducta come with the goods on this one. Bringing his original skanking UK Garage sound to the table we have been dancing all around the Tumble offices to this half hour of power. We are beyond excited to welcome this up and coming dj / producer to Tumble Bristol so we thought we would catch up with him for an interview as well to dig a little deeper, read more below!!!
Tumble - Hi Conducta, please first introduce yourself to the Tumble Audio readers.
Yo my names Collins, Im 20, from Bristol & I make music under the name Conducta
T - Who and what are your main influences when it comes to production?
With production I draw a lot of inspiration from Ramsey and Fen, MJ Cole mainly for their ability to couple melodies with sick basslines. Listening to those two and producers like Clams Casino, DOK, Breakage always help me to cement ideas for tunes. On the vocal side of things love listening to RnB from 80âs & 90âs such Guy, Bobby Brown, 112, Brownstone and other groups and artists from that era its always fun experimenting and chopping up vocals here n there
T - Bass music is constantly evolving in the UK at the moment with many artists jumping on the 'Now' sounds, what has inspired you to stick with UK Garage?
I think its great that UK music can constantly evolve which can clearly be seen in the emergence of the producer in grime. 5 or 6 years ago producers werenât regarded as important but its good names such as Royal T, Preditah, Faze Miyake, Swindle etc have helped to reclaim its importance. As for jumping on the now sound, itâs a very easy thing to do however a lot of producers who do this end up making cheap imitations of the original sound which leads to certain genres becoming clogged with generic productions.
What inspired me really to pursue making garage was that it was something I grew up on but wanted to give it a 21st century twist and build on whatâs already been made, rather than try and make music that sounds like itâs from 2001, nostalgia can often play tricks on people. Of course there was alot of good music around the 00âs and 90âs but there was also a lot of bad. Always best to innovate rather than recreate.
T - You recently released a brilliant EP with A.motion, how did that come about?
We came across each other on soundcloud, really digged each otherâs sound and the first tune we made was âIf You Leave; then it a really took off from there. Got a lot more stuff planned with him in the very near future.
T - You have been playing out a fair bit recently, what tunes do you think are smashing it on the dancefloor at the moment?
Moony â The Reason
DeadBeat â Scottish Notes
A.motion â Feat Thomas Graham â Bassline Be Good To Me (DJ D refix)
Nativ â Shifty
PVC â Let Go
T - Tell us a little bit about the mix you put together for Tumble, why have you selected these tunes?
Way I approached the mix was to wack in stuff from myself, my favourite tunes and some new music and some gems of old.
T - Where can we catch you DJing in the coming months?
Iâll be catching a wave on the 22nd with you guys in Bristol. Then special âboiler roomâ style show on DĂJĂ VU the following week, then looking forward to gracing UKG Fest with a b2b set from me and A.Motion on April 18th.
T - Who are your top 3 producers to watch out for in 2014?
Theres a lot of producers doing a lot atm but personally Garage wise, I believe Moony is set for a big year. On the grime side of things, a producer called JLSXNDR7S who I made Firepower with will have a lot to bring to the table this year production wise. Lastly, a producer Iâve recently come across called PVC whoâs definitely making a lot of waves right now with his recent release on Q recordings.
T - Who is your style icon?
Hmmmmm. Pusha T
T - Do you think its acceptable to be wearing shorts in March?
Donât wear shorts if youâve got dry ankles, Donât take pics if youâve got dry lips.
T - St.Pausl Carnival or Notting Hill?
Notting HillâŚjust
T - Thank you for speaking to us, to finish, what can we expect from Conducta in 2014?
Been a pleasure. I have EP coming out on 28th April on DPM which features 2 tunes of mine and a remix from Distro. Also have big news on my track âStongerâ coming soon. Other than that looking forward to working with more producers, currently have collaborations in the works with Deadbeat, DJ D and a few more projects lined up with vocalists and artists.
Big up Conducta, looks like 2014 is set to be a big year for him, now have a listen to the mix here and get down to our Free Party in Bristol on the 22nd March >>>
