FINAL:
My concrete wall at a 1:2 scale
The final design came out just how i envisioned it. The concrete was smooth with minimal air bubbles. The edges were clean .The contrast between black and white was amazing and the line came out super clean.
I am very happy with my final result and am proud of my testing towards it
TESTING MIX:
I tested a 1:4 mix to see how smooth i could get the concrete
i found that it was too brittle and broke while i was removing it from the mould
the finish was great though there was no bubbles on the bottom and was extremely smooth
Possibly in a bigger thicker shape it would hold together but just to be sure i will avoid this ratio
TESTING MIX:
Test 2 was a 1:5 ratio of cement to sand
I added the oxide aswell to see what the block shape would look like a bit darker
With this test i found the mix to be quite good, it held together well and was quite smooth
There was quite a few air bubbles and rough ness
I think i can solve this by maybe a different ratio
but also by shaking the mix more and making sure i completely mix the mix together so it is 1 continuous mixture
TESTING MIX:
This test was a 1:6 ratio of cement to sand and i also used a bit of the oxide to see how it mixed in
I learnt that this ratio contained to much sand and that caused a rough grainy texture that i wasnt wanting
Next time i will lower the sand and try to smooth it out
Possibly more water too

I also choose the Cemix oxide powder in black to give the top halve of the concrete the colour i wanted
I did a bit of research into pigment changes of concrete and found this to be the best deal, i used almost the whole container.
To be sure my colour lasts and is strong black i used more than the instructions suggested
While trying to find white oxide i found the price to be far too much so i will let the bottom halve fade in time it should lighten up quite a bit and be a good contrast to the black
These are the products i choose from Bunnings they were relatively cheap costing $11 all up and laster me the entire process.

After a generation in the doghouse, concrete is more fashionable than ever. So why don’t we take better care of our brutalist architecture?
The choice of concrete as a material was because of the purity, honesty and straight forward ness to it. My building was about clean simple thing not confusing the user but to have them explore the space by being interested. Concrete walls provide a sleek pure finish and honest to what it actually is. There is no guessing concrete. It Is Concrete
The unbuilt design of a home for Josephine Baker by the architect Adolf Loos is perhaps one of the most analyzed unbuilt homes of Modernism.

I have made 4 different molds using the guillotine and bender techniques that William showed me. These include my final size mold, as well as 3 smaller molds as I realized that if I kept testing ideas out on the 1:2 scale mold that I would be wasting lots of materials. I Wanted to be able to test out mixes and ratios for my cement to get the best finish I could so to save on materials I made 3 smaller boxes to pour in.
Using the Guillotine and Bender at the workshop I was practicing to see how I would for a mold for my block. I learnt that i had to bend it a certain way to get the angles to work right and the i would have to bend the edges of the sheet to create wings to stop it from bowing
Drawing out ideas for my design
What I Learnt So Far:
- Size of my block @1:2 scale is 300wx100dx200h
- I want as smooth of finish as possible, no air bubbles, no stones and clean edges from the different colours and corners
- Products: Black Oxide for colour, Cement + Sand for my Mix, Moulds.

A faceted concrete shell punctuated by openings of varying sizes wraps around this house in Kuala Lumpur, which contains pockets of interior landscaping.
The windows appear cut out of the volume of the structure leaving the illusion the building has been cut
