It should have been a happy moment; seeing him after almost a year apart. It should have been filled with hugs and happy tears, long awaited kisses and whispered I love you’s. Instead the only thing you could feel was utter dread as your eyes found his, his dilated pupils making the beautiful blue of his irises turn into a bottomless pit. He stalked forward, determination in his step as his gaze landed on your kouhai laying on the ground, the sound of his katana getting unsheathed filling the heavy silence.
“Yuuta what are you doing?” You moved in front of him, palms raised and soon making contact with his chest in a futile attempt to stop him. Your side burned at the sudden pressure causing you to let out a small whine, your boyfriend halting for only a moment to gently push you to the side, the darkness in his eyes being lifted if only for a moment.
“Not now Y/N.” He walked past you, knuckles turning white as they gripped his blade and soon he was raising it high in the air, target locked and ready to be disposed of.
“Yuuta no! Stop! He hasn’t done anything!” Grasping his elbow, staggering him for a moment, you pushed yourself in between him and Yuuji again, spreading your arms out in a protective stance, pleading with your boyfriend to stop this insanity. “He hasn’t done anything! He is a sweet kid, Yuuta please stop!”
“Innocent? You think he is innocent after what he did to Toge?” Never in the two years you’ve known him, has he ever been this angry. Even during Getou’s surprise visit back in your first year, his aura hadn’t been this dark. Okkotsu Yuuta was ready to kill. “Y/N. Move.”
“NO! I don’t know what happened to Toge and we’ll deal with that later but you don’t know Yuuji! He is the reason we are all alive! Yuuta, he is on our side!!” The pain shooting through your body was becoming unbearable, your vision swimming as you screamed at him but you weren’t backing down. No. He can’t do this. You staggered back a little bit as your knees slightly gave out and before you knew it he was next to you, steadying you with an arm wrapped gently around your waist, eyes scanning your body assessing every single injury. And just by that you knew what he was thinking.
Sukuna’s vessel hurt you.
As quickly as he came he disappeared taking his warmth with him. You didn’t think at that moment, you just moved. You weren’t as quick as Yuuta, you could never be as quick as him, you knew you couldn’t stop his attack this time. What you could do was prevent it from hitting Yuuji and without a second thought you did just that.
There was no pain at first, only a numbing feeling spreading from your left shoulder to your palm. Then you felt something warm cascading down your front and back, coating your chest and slowly dripping to the floor. After that you couldn’t see in front of you. Everything was black, all noises turning into static, the buzzing in your ears drowning out Yuuta’s desperate calls. You could barely feel his hands pressing on the conjunction of your shoulder, his cold palms on your skin or how his breath fanned your forehead. You couldn’t see the tears rolling down his cheeks or how his white shirt slowly turned red. And above all you couldn’t hear his pleas.
“Y-Y/N baby eyes o-on me.”
“Y-You’re g-gonna be o-okay, please b-baby focus on m-me.”
“I’m sorry I’m so so sorry.”
With any last ounce of strength you had left, you brought your palm to his cheeks, brushing your thumb over his cheekbone in an attempt to wipe away the tears.
“You have…a stubble ….w-when did….that h-happen?”
He had you in his arms now, running towards Shoko’s tent or at least where he thought it should be. His mind was not functioning correctly, mission long forgotten as your wound continued to bleed out. He caused this. He is just like him. Just like Itadori. Pressing his lips to your forehead he let his eyes meet yours only to be met with a pair of hazy e/c orbs.
“S-see what being a-away from you d-does to a man?” He could see the tent. It was just a little further. “I got you a souvenir.” He could see Shoko’s silhouette through the white fabric. “I hope you’ll like it.” Just a few more steps. “It reminded me of you.” Just a few more.
“….c-can….I….get….a clue?” It was barely over a whisper but it was there. You were still with him, you weren’t gone. You would be fine, Shoko would help you. She didn’t ask any questions when Yuuta placed you on a stretcher, a sad smile adorning his face even though you couldn’t enjoy it.
“T-tell you what. You b-bounce back from t-this a-and I’ll a-also take you t-to that expensive restaurant y-you like.” Shoko didn’t even try to pry him away from you, knowing full well that he wouldn’t budge.
Your grip on his hand went limp as your eyes closed, Shoko’s technique working over your wounds slowly leaving Yuuta in a deafening silence.
Okkotsu Yuuta was once again utterly alone.
