Amane Yugi headcannon/character analysis 😳 The specific I’m going to be analyzing is Amane Yugi and he’s habit and ability to mask or put on a persona.
Hanako is Amane Yugis main persona. That alone is pretty obvious. Hanako is obnoxious, playful, sexual, egotistical, and extroverted. While what we know about Amane is he’s, quiet, shy, straightforward, self hating, and introverted. Already it’s shown that they’re not extremely similar people at all despite being the same person. Sure both of them have each others traits bleed into eachother but that’s STILL a persona.
Hanako is a more likable version of Tsukasa (No hate to Tsukasa I love him). He’s a more emotional person compaired to his twin. Hanako most of the time stays pretty consistent with his character, always making jokes out of everything. But there’s several times where this persona slips, mainly when Tsukasa is involved. With this Hanako seems to slip back into ‘Amane’ seemingly either terrified, sad, in shock, or simply aggressive.
Hanako is made of parts of Tsukasa that Amane probably liked. He had 50 years to perfect and build up this persona, sure he didn’t have much practice with it but he still obviously could build up and use it. This is shown with how he acts with Tschigamori too.
Tschigamori knows how Hanako truly is so there’s more and less guard there. Hanako seems to be extra shush shush around him or overall more careful when it comes to interacting with him near others. Alone though, he tends to hide behind Tschigamori curtains and overall just mope in his room. Showing vulnerability only to Tschigamori.
In the picture perfect arc Hanako EASILY can slip into a more personalized ‘Amane’ it takes no effort and it’s not easily broken like Mitsubas was. Only broken when an outside force causes him to react and act normally and not in a planned way. Which most of the time is negative and more aggressive.
When even Hanako knows he’s doing wrong or has done wrong or is going to do wrong he simply doesn’t bother with acting like Hanako. In the picture perfect when caught he fully dropped it and KNEW he was in the wrong especially when everyone was telling him so. Yet he didn’t stop and simply just acted more and more on his thoughts rather than what people could’ve felt.
In the severance arc he simply WAITS for Yashiro and doesn’t have his persona on at all. Once she’s there he doesn’t put his persona back on until closer to the end. He puts it back on to be able to comfort/joke with her like Hanako would.
-AMANE BEFORE DEATH AREA-
I believe that when Amane was alive he even then kept a persona on. Not as direct and well thought out as Hanako was but still a persona. Something he’d put on when he was forced to be out and about or near people. It’s similar to Hanako but not exact, it’s messier and easier to break.
Amane as a character seems constantly annoyed. Either when Tsukasa describes him when they’re four, or when he’s talking to Tschigamori during his Yorishiro breaking, or finally when he’s trying to fix the clock with Tsukasa near by. All of these times he seems very unlikable and unable to care and already irritated at everything.
Other times Amanes shown he seems to have some sort of mask on, a happier more likeable act. Similar to the Amane in the picture perfect arc, he seemingly seems more happy, positive, and well put together. Only snapping or breaking when something within his life or out of his control happens which has a lot lower of a limit then Hanakos.
The first time we ever see Amane (Beat up Amane is what I’ll call him) he seems way less put together. Easily hating everyone and everything and has obviously just given up on anything. He had at that point given up on life therefore he stopped keeping his appearance up too. He let himself be more moody unless he wanted to avoid a subject, fully slipping back into his persona when he needs to get out of something.
I believe this is either because… 1. He at that time had already killed Tsukasa or 2. Was already planning it out months to days prior before he fully killed his brother. With that, something in Amanes life probably triggered his lack of care and so therefore lack of performance.
The only times Amanes shown to act in a more negative light is when he’s with people whose seen him vulnerable. Mainly Tsukasa or Tschigamori. Any other time that’s not when beat up Amane is he’s keeping on some sort of happy act.
-HEAD CANNON OR ASSUMPTIONS-
Mrs. Yugi is a character that we as a collective have little to no information on. The most we understand is that after Tsukasa had came back she believed he was possessed and tried to do something about it just to be deemed as crazy. Then she also because physically abusive after her husband either left the twins or took on more hours to be out of the house more.
With how the Yugi Family household is set up they seem to be very well set off and pretty family oriented. This obviously changes once thier mother goes crazy and their father leaves the house more because of it.
I think Amane gets his habit of keeping appearances and making himself as likable as he can from this dynamic within thier family. A sort of always having to keep something up and running to be liked by others. Amane probably isn’t too likable as his real self so even if he has to fake it he probably enjoys being liked over being himself.
Amane seems always decently put together and acting very stereotypical to if someone was to describe traits that they enjoy or find funny. Mrs. Yugi probably doing the same, accidentally but not upsettingly rubbing off onto Amane .
Therefore creating Amanes habit and ability to keep personas and mask emotions well. He did have 50-60 years to craft this after all.
If there’s any questions or like things I got wrong please tell me. I also have a lot more of these to do if people want to see
