Through the readings for this week, we can see that identity can help bring together groups by not escaping problems that a certain group faces. For example, some of the more successful black people like to escape “blackness” by buying into stereotypes of people they are identified with by a society. What identity doesn’t help with is bringing back scientific racism. This brings back people to discuss how they are “a quarter Swedish,” or “part Cherokee.” Which really doesn’t make any sense. The body plays a big role in theses readings. Mostly between black and white people. An example they give is coates is scared when a white women threatens to call the police because he is afraid that he will be beaten when they come but if a black man threatened a white male with the police he would have laughed in his face because he is white and the police would not have done anything to him. This plays a big role in society because the whites can get away with anything and the blacks can't get away with anything and get blamed for everything. -Delaney Volpe
