You Will Still be Mine vs. She Used to be Mine
“I’ve known since I was thirteen. It wasn’t a struggle for me. I didn’t question whether it was ‘right’ or ‘wrong.’ I just knew it was me. But I’m still completely closeted. I’m part of a very religious community. Even my choice to go to college was questioned. It’s seen as not trusting in God. If my family knew I was gay, I’d be cut off completely. Listen, they’re not bad. They aren’t bad people. It’s just what they believe. I’m not angry at them. I’m angry at the situation. If I choose to fall in love, then nobody that I’ve ever known will speak to me again.”

Don’t stress yourself over people who don’t deserve to be part of your life.

For this semester’s illustration class, we were required to pick a short story and turn it into a storybook. I’ve chosen @neil-gaiman‘s October Tale from ‘A Calendar of Tales’ since it’s my favourite out of the others, and here are the illustrations used for it!
These are terrific!
One Hundred Ways to Say ‘I Love You’
“Pull over. Let me drive for awhile.”
“It reminded me of you.”
“No, no, it’s my treat.”
“Come here. Let me fix it.”
“I’ll walk you home.”
“Have a good day at work.”
“I dreamt about you last night.”
“Take my seat.”
“I saved a piece for you.”
“I’m sorry for your loss.”
“You can have half.”
“Take my jacket, it’s cold outside.”
“Sorry I’m late.”
“Can I have this dance?”
“I made your favourite.”
“It’s okay. I couldn’t sleep anyway.”
“Watch your step.”
“Here, drink this. You’ll feel better.”
“Can I hold your hand?”
“You can borrow mine.”
“You might like this.”
“It’s not heavy. I’m stronger than I look.”
“I’ll wait.”
“Just because.”
“Look both ways.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
“Try some.”
“Drive safely.”
“Well, what do you want to do?”
“One more chapter.”
“Don’t worry about me.”
“It looks good on you.”
“Close your eyes and hold out your hands.”
“That’s okay, I bought two.”
“After you.”
“We’ll figure it out.”
“Can I kiss you?”
“I like your laugh.”
“Don’t cry.”
“I made this for you.”
“Go back to sleep.”
“Is this okay?”
“I picked these for you.”
“I’ll drive you to the hospital.”
“What do you want to watch?”
“You can go first.”
“Did you get my letter?”
“I’ll do it for you.”
“Call me when you get home.”
“I think you’re beautiful.”
“Are you sure?”
“Have fun.”
“Sit down, I’ll get it.”
“I made reservations.”
“I don’t mind.”
“It brings out your eyes.”
“There is enough room for both of us.”
“You don’t have to say anything.”
“Wow.”
“Happy birthday.”
“I’ll pick it up after work.”
“It can wait until tomorrow.”
“Cross my heart and hope to die.”
“It’s two sugars, right?”
“I’ll help you study.”
“Stay over.”
“I did the dishes.”
“You didn’t have to ask.”
“I bought you a ticket.”
“You’re warm.”
“No reason.”
“I’ll meet you halfway.”
“Take mine.”
“We can share.”
“I was just thinking about you.”
“I want you to have this.”
“Call me if you need anything.”
“Do you want to come too?”
“I’ll still be here when you’re ready.”
“Is your seatbelt on?”
“Sweet dreams.”
“I was in the neighbourhood.”
“Stay there. I’m coming to get you.”
“The key is under the mat.”
“It doesn’t bother me.”
“You’re important too.”
“I saved you a seat.”
“I’ll see you later.”
“I noticed.”
“You can tell me anything.”
“I hope you like it.”
“I want you to be happy.”
“I believe in you.”
“You can do it.”
“Good luck.”
“I brought you an umbrella.”
“I’ll pick you up at the airport.”
“Take a deep breath.”
“Be careful.”
And…
“I love you.”

So today at IHOP a white lady stepped in and insulted my mother for speaking Spanish. She told my mom to learn English Or get out of America.my mom does speak English with an accent though! I stepped in an didn’t let her do that. Please share!! This will not stop unless we step in. Latinos tenemos que hablar contra el RACISMO! Here’s the video of proof! Share!!!

White people piss me tf off.
Do yall here the pain in that woman’s voice (that woman who speaks Spanish)? That is the pain of someone who has worked day and night to make things happen for herself and her family in this god awful country only to have all of her work be spit on by some stale piece of bread who probably hasn’t had to do half of what the other woman does.
I know this pain well, especially being the child of two immigrant parents and seeing how people reacted when my parents spoke in their mother tongue or when they heard my parents accents. Suddenly any trust or expectations that any (mostly white) person had in them as an employee/house owner/worker etc. was just completely disregarded.
I’m sick and tired of this bullshit and I'ms sick and tired of associating “American” with “white and English speaking” because that’s not what it fucking is.
Yo, I might play around about a lot of things, but I would have given this lady the complete business. The whole “This is America, we speak English” line is sooo tired. Like, she does realize that America doesn’t have an official language, right? So if I wanna walk around speaking fucking Pig Latin then I will. She is batshit crazy and someone needs to put her cranky ass in a home. I’m glad people like this are dying out/are becoming a very small minority, but I still would have had to embarrass the fuck outta her in front of all of IHOP. Y’all need to stay in your lane and stop comin’ for minorities unless you wanna get ribbed.
I don’t know if I’m emotional but hearing the pain in here voice when she yelled “I speak English.” has me bawling right now.
Also... you know.... English = England. But, whatever.
Lately I've been surrounded by a lot of negativity, and a lot of body negativity. It just so happens that this is how I look, and I think it's beautiful. #effyourbeautystandards
