Gally was in love. The whole Glade knew it. From the moment she stepped out of the box, she had him wrapped around her finger. She meant everything to him. Nobody messed with Gallyâs girl. When she became a runner, it nearly killed him. She assured him she would be safe, and promised that she would always come back to him. Her first day running, Gally almost didnât let her leave,
âPrincess, itâs dangerous out thereâ
âI know, but there is a way out, there has to beâ
â(Y/n) babe, are you sure?â

She had gone that morning, and Gally didnât stop worrying until she came back. Weeks passed, with the same routine, (Y/n) ran, and Gally worried. It was almost a month later when the day Gally had always dreaded came. The walls had closed, and (Y/n) was nowhere to be seen. Gally had sat by the doors all night, he jumped to his feet when they opened, he looked inside, hoping to see her, but nothing. He sank to his knees. All he could think about was how he was never going to see her beautiful smile, or hear her wonderful laugh ever again. The gladers knew better than to give Gally false hope, knowing that her chance of coming back was nonexistant. The left him to deal with his grief.
It had been months since (Y/n)âs death, Gally had changed. He had become hardened and distant. No glader could break down the walls he had built around his heart. When Thomas arrived, Gallyâs attitude hadnât changed. It wasnât until Thomas became a runner and insisted that there was a way out, that Gally lashed out. He had held in his anger for too long, but Thomasâs ideas reminded him of her. Gallyâs thoughts of Thomas turned hateful, much to Thomasâs confusion. To make matters worse, nobody would tell him why Gally hated him so much. One day, Gally pushed all of Thomasâs buttons,
âWhy do you hate me so much?â
âYouâre just a stupid shank that believes in something that isnât thereâ
âI know there is a way out, there has to be!â
âThere has to be?! The last time someone said that to me, she went into the maze and never came back!â
