YES they were my first thought when this album came out

The thing about Dashner trying so bad to appeal to the fujos in post movie literature (mainly the fever code) is that unlike other relationships in the series٫ Newt and Thomas just aren't compelling at all. You have these really forced instances of unreasonable affection in their inner dialogues without any real basis to substain it٫ and it just doesn't feel organic٫ which ends up even being frustrating when٫ say٫ their other friends are also in danger and they mainly focus on eachother when...they're never even that close to begin with. They have a couple cute moments here and there (I thought the scene where they tripped over eachother in tfc was adorable)٫ but the thing is that what made their relationship interesting to begin with is how messy it was٫ which is why even in a book that very clearly tries to appeal to newtmas shippers٫ I can't help but find every other relationship much more engaging٫ especially when we're shown just how different Minho and Alby particularly were pre Glade and what their relationship with Thomas was like.

I wish we were shown a less fanservicey version of their relationship as kids٫ because it's evident that even as a young child Newt was a very troubled individual٫ and it would've been very interesting to see how his resentment was already beginning to grow in the complex in their childhood (and would've also been a really cool parallel to minho and alby's feelings about him) .
