Every terrorist attack that has been happening lately in Europe has felt like it has hit close to home, but not this one. This one HAS hit home. Barcelona, the city where I was born.

I was meant to be in Barcelona this afternoon, to go and have my brows done in Plaça Catalunya, the place where the attack happened, but changed plans last minute and I feel I can’t gather my thoughts.

My heart is shattered, I feel numb. It could have been me. It could have been my loved ones. It could have affected someone I know, or someone I’ve had once spoken to, or just someone I might have crossed on the street.

I don’t have words. How can we stop this? How can we beat this people?

My thoughts are with all the people touched by this attack, and all the others that came before it.

I find it very annoying when English speakers come to Barcelona and they need directions: instead of politely saying a few words in Spanish like: “hey, please, do you speak English?” or “Hello, can you help us?” (not that difficult, every travel guide has these words in every single language) they just stop you on the street, talking in English and asking for directions and if you don’t understand them or can’t get your message to be understood, they just look offended at you, turn around and leave. like, do I need to speak YOUR language when I go to your country, otherwise you won’t even try to understand what I’m saying, but I also need to speak YOUR language when you come to mine or you’ll be offended?

ah, the double standards of ignorance...

(not saying all native English speakers are like that, just the majority I’ve found)

I usually try not to bash Marlene. Yes, I make fun of the lies she tells about the show, all the plot holes, etc. but I never wanted to be too rough and too personal.
