Turning Movie!Ron to Book!Ron (part 1)
so everyone knows the differences between movie!ron and book!ron. book!ron is everything anyone would want: loyal, caring, brave, funny, smart and more whereas movie ron is: funny, loyal, brave and that’s just it. the flaws in book ron is not the same as the MASSIVE and EXTRA flaws in movie ron. so i’ve decided to make this post to turn every single horrible movie!ron moment to a book!ron one. it may not make sense now, but just follow along and you’ll get it. of course, i won’t be able to change everything because of the damage kl*ves has already done by trying to glorify harry and hermione, but it’ll work (hopefully). let’s start. (GIFs AREN’T MINE)
1. philosopher’s stone movie; troll scene.
most of this particular movie has stuck to book!ron (we stan chris columbus btw) so we won’t have much to change here BUT this scene and one another. anyway, in this book scene, ron saves both harry and hermione by using the spell “wingardium leviosa” without anyone’s help, however, in the movies, it’s changed to hermione helping him from her safe place under the sink with wand movements. this was kl*ves’ attempt to make ron look stupid, as though he can’t cast a spell without hermione’s help. the changed intention could be that hermione THINKS ron is not at all smart after their encounter in flitwick’s class (“it’s leviOsa, not leviosAR) and tries helping him, but ron proves her wrong by casting the charm without her help and saves the two from the troll. i know this change isn’t as effective, but it’s the most i could do seeing as kl*ves is so good at ruining ron, i apologise.
2. philsopher’s stone movie; the devil’s snare scene.
the trio have gone through the trapdoor now working their way through to reach the stone. books: ron and harry are trapped in the wrath of the said plant, of course, hermione knows its intentions and knows that she needs to light a fire. she completely loses her head in this panick and says “but there’s no wood”. RON is the one who reminds her that she’s a witch and can use her wand. movies: hermione is all too smart to need this reminder and goes with the flow. kl*ves was trying to present that ron is utterly useless. sadly, this can’t be changed by me as i really can’t think of anything.
3. chamber of secrets; slugs
again, in this movie, it was stuck strictly to the books (thank you chris). there was this one scene that bugged me and others though. movies: when malfoy insulted hermione with the word “mudblood”, she knew what it meant and was upset whilst she explained what it meant to harry, ron and hagrid. books: hermione didn’t know what it meant so she wasn’t that offended, ron explained what it was whilst burping slugs. kl*ves was trying to make us sympathise for hermione and completely ignore ron who tried CURSING malfoy over this word. i can change this intention by having ron burping up slugs each time he TRIES to explain or apologise to hermione about this pureblood supremacy behaviour. again, this isn’t much, but it’s enough for the slight book!ron to show in this movie scene.
4. prisoner of azkaban; insufferable know-it-all scene
this was really, really hard to think of and it’s not much but i’m hoping that it’s somewhat better than the original scene. books: snape insults hermione calling her an “insufferable know-it-all” and ron steps in to defend her, “why ask a question if you don’t want the answer?” resulting in him getting a detention. movies: snape insults hermione and ron backs snape up saying, “he’s got a point you know..” (very unlike ron btw). kl*ves intentions was to make ron seem like the bully here, another malfoy, perhaps. i can KIND OF change this intention by making a new one that when ron says “he’s got a point you know”, he’s kind of praising hermione’s intelligence, maybe in his mind thinking how she’s brilliantly smart but as ron is quite stubborn (even in the books) he’ll never tell her that till they end up together by the end. i suppose i can back this point up by foreshadowing the scene in gof where he realises hermione is a girl, never actually saying “i really really want to go to the ball with you” because again, he’s so stubborn.
5. prisoner of azkaban; sirius black!
i couldn’t find the exact gif of it, but it’s basically where sirius has assaulted the fat lady in her portrait. let me show you what bothered me here. movies: dumbledore tells everyone to leave and so they do, ron is the first to move with other people whereas hermione stays to make sure harry is okay, who’s staring at the portrait in fear. this wasn’t a book scene but if it was, it’d have gone like this: ron would be dragging harry away trying to give him comforting words somehow (along with hermione). the intention of this scene by kl*ves was to show that hermione is the more caring friend when really, both care a lot about harry. i can kind of change this intention by letting ron leave, not because he doesn’t care, but because if he looks any longer, he’s more likely to attack someone in a desperate attempt to let out his feelings because a mass murderer is after his best friend.
