It really bugs me that the core of the Whitly Family lies not just in Martin’s crimes, but Jessica’s suffering. She has paid so many times for the sins of her family over and over again and it is brutal. Her son calls in the cops and her husband gets arrested. Everything is completely true, her life is shattered, and her son goes mute so she can’t find out what he’s been through. She sends him to therapy and tries to find who she is but she’s been ousted from the only society she’s ever known. She pours everything she can give into her kids. One of whom takes up journalism to her chagrin and the other willingly risks his life every single day. Not to mention her son is consistently angry and accusatory with her. And that lil flirtation with Gil? Oh she can’t have that joy because at any given time Martin will go Bezerk and she can’t put a target on his back. She isn’t allowed a life apart from Martin and the trauma he caused even now so she drinks and pills away the realization and I cannot blame her at all.

I'd be the opposite. Once I have the safety of knowing I have time and health, I would finally be able to focus on one thing and complete the thing without panicking that this will take x years.
