I stared at the array of my motherβs home cooking, all the flavours I would never have associated with a moment this warm. Things had been amiable between us since the scenarios, but this was the closest to comfortable Iβd ever been around her.
I wondered if this is what visiting family was meant to feel like. Like catching a glimpse of an old photograph and remembering the reasons behind the smiles that were captured.

This was the thing about trauma. It was a fable that wanted nothing more than to tell its story over and over again. When given a chance, it liked to convince its audience that a similar setting went hand in hand with similar tragedies. Sometimes it took going through such events once more in a safer space or with safer people to convince it that not every setting would result in the same story.
I finally gathered the courage to tell her.

ok sorry to double reblog BUT I just looked him up and he does these fantastic videos where he breaks down HOW he actually mimics the other artistsβ styles. Like for ed Sheeran, he explains how he brings his voice forward in the mouth, while Adam Levine sings in the back of the mouth, stuff like that. Itβs SO COOL, I donβt think Iβve ever seen anyone actually break down how to do this sort of thing, as a skill, instead of just treating it like a neat trick they just happen to be good at.

the natural lifespan of a fandom is unlimited. when well tended a fandom can be functionally immortal. and yet everywhere you look you see newly bred fandoms withering and dying when theyβre barely a year old. barely even six months old. fans are looking at their six month old fandoms and saying i think itβs on its last legs, should i euthanise it? when with the proper care that fandom could outlive them for decades. itβs sad. sad state of affairs weβre in.

the insane experience of missing a fictional character . like you can always go back and reread the book , replay the game , rewatch the show or movie , you can always go back & see them , but you can never experience them & their story for the first time again . its absurd to miss them because they'll always be there , but you'll miss when there were still new things for them to say .
for a small time they were real & growing and changing and you hung onto every new word, but now all they can do is repeat the same story forever&ever & they're not real anymore because you know everything they're going to do. & you miss them. its fucked man...

I just checked and it turns out you still can't hate yourself into a version of you that you can love. I know we were all hoping they'd fixed that but nope, offering unconditional compassion to your flawed self is still the only way to improve. The sweet relief of self-inflicted punishment isn't gonna cut it. Super fucked up, I know, but we carry on.
