I get a LOT of asks for weight loss spells, and here’s the thing: there are no weight loss spells. 

You will not lose weight by going out on a waning moon and rubbing your body with clear quartz while chanting. It just won’t happen. And that’s a good thing - I mean, imagine if you could mess up such complicated body processes with magic.

Does that mean magic can’t help? Of course not. Magic can do a lot for you in this regard, but - same as with finding jobs or new partners - you still have to put the spadework in. Magic can help you with that, though, in many different ways.

Food spells

Try to come up with healthier foods that will be special to you. Maybe a salad dressing with more herbs than just spices, or a light soup with that extra magic oomph. Big part of eating healthier is letting go of the idea that healthy food is inherently unpleasant and dreary, and there’s nothing less dreary than food spells.

Exercise spells

You can ritualise the very process of exercise, make it a spellcasting process as well. One of the reasons why people of the West get so much into various forms of yoga is that it appeals to their mind and spirituality, rather than just being a set of mindless movements, and there’s nothing preventing you from doing the same with your exercise, whether you end up jogging or swimming or doing Pilates or just walking.

Try designating a special space for your exercise. Or do it in front of your altar. Or visualise the energy woven from your movements, the strength building up in you, your muscles shining with golden light. Make an exercise timetable that follows the Moon phases. Offer your exercise as a sacrifice to an appropriate patron, if you do this sort of thing. Whatever you feel is right, whatever you want to put your body to.

This is your weight control spell, and you’re repeating it every two days. Guaranteed success.

Enchantments

You can enchant all sorts of objects, or even places, to enhance your goal. Draw sigils that will strengthen your resolve, or perform a blessing ritual on your running shoes, and each time you put them on you will think about it. They will serve you all the better. Do the same with your exercise mat, or your sweatpants, whatever accessories you use. Enchant the spot where you do it with an invigorating circle or anything else you find appropriate. I’ve put several personal magic symbols on my jogging trail and each time I pass them I feel my resolve rising. The best part is that no one else even knows they’re there.

You can combine and adjust all of the above for a whole magical campaign for weight control, but remember: you will still have to put in the mundane effort, too. It’s the only way this will work.

BONUS: Kitchen Wichcraft’s Enchanting Exercise Spray

This spray is a potion - more precisely, a mixture of alcoholic tincture and water - that I use for quick magical effects related to my exercising schedule. I use it on my running shoes sometimes (it also smells nice, which is a good thing for running shoes) to keep their magic up, or I use it to cool off my skin and keep my magic up. It uses herbs related to health, beauty and power, and the spray form makes it easy to use. You will need:

A spray bottle

Water

Alcohol for the tincture

Herbs for the tincture: sage, yarrow, jasmine and vervain.

Combine the herbs in a clean container and submerge in alcohol. Leave them off for at least a week, shaking from time to time. Strain. In the spray bottle, combine at least three parts of water with one part of your tincture. Spray on things.

At any stage of the process you can include a blessing or enchantment of your choice - plead a health deity for help, or draw sigils on the jar or the bottle, or anything you wish.

Every now and then, magic can fade. In order to keep it strong and healthy, you have to exercise it. Of course there will always be times when something else is more important than your craft, but there is always a little something you can do to keep it going.

-Whisper an incantation over your lil’ cup of tea.

-Pray to your deities as you fall asleep at night.

-Carry a tiny crystal in your pocket.

-Scribble a quick happiness sigil on your arm before school or work.

-Give your pets some treats you have bewitched.

-Recite affirmations when you get ready to go somewhere in the mirror.

-Light a stick of incense while you’re cleaning or just sitting around.

-Add little thoughts to your grimoire.

-Sleep with your tarot cards.

-Play some witchy music.

-Set out a couple jars to collect rain water.

-Cleanse your home while cleaning.

i’m not trying to purposefully steer people away from wicca, i am only answering a questions that asked how it was problematic. the things i mentioned, – wicca’s history with transphobia, heterosexism, and cultural appropriation, these are not my personal assumptions, these are well-documented problems with the religion that many have spoken on. 

however, as you must know from those posts you reference seeing, i said, on the individual level people can work to make wicca better from a faulty foundation. i say this, because i was once part of a wiccan-based coven myself and they made many efforts to change the traditions we used to be more trans friendly and were mindful to avoid appropriative rituals that were recommended. 

i cannot with clear conscious recommend wicca to anyone without educating them of its issues; these are things people have a right to know of before they dedicate themselves to it.
