the natural lifespan of a fandom is unlimited. when well tended a fandom can be functionally immortal. and yet everywhere you look you see newly bred fandoms withering and dying when they’re barely a year old. barely even six months old. fans are looking at their six month old fandoms and saying i think it’s on its last legs, should i euthanise it? when with the proper care that fandom could outlive them for decades. it’s sad. sad state of affairs we’re in.

Sometimes I see posts that are good but also seem to be entertaining/engaging with the kind of bad discourse that is better laughed out of the room, starved out, just kicked to the curb. No, that ship of two friends who really like each other is not “toxic” because one is not unambiguously heroic-aligned. An age gap where the younger party is 30 is not an Issue to address. We don’t have to take people with no media comprehension whose brains have been pickled in discourse so seriously. The best way to get them to stop projecting 8-year-old arguments about Reylo onto every fandom is to just be like “lol that’s silly” and move on. Model that we are above that here.

Being crazy about a piece of media for any amount of time will leave a weird mark on you forever because years later you’ll see someone posting something about it like “can we talk about this frame” and you’ll be like “ah that frame. i know all about that frame. I was once a scholar of that frame.”

There's an alternate version of Voyager in my mind where B'Elanna and the Doctor end up together. Their dynamic is underrated and always a joy. They press each other's buttons in just the right way, and B'Elanna is probably the crewmember who does the most to challenge the Doctor/aid his growth. I may be the sole shipper, but I think there was some real potential there if the showrunners wanted to develop a relationship based on actual character chemistry. (Plus who better to keep your mobile emitter going than the chief engineer, okay? No shade to Tom. He and B'Elanna are p cute. But the Doctor's endgame? Okay, maybe he doesn't deserve B'Elanna actually.)
