Her smile widened slightly, "only a slightly poor impression," the correction came easily accompanied by a smile that suggested she was not serious in the slightest. "just enough to suspect you enjoy knowing far more than you ought." which, in fairness, described a surprising number of noblewomen. "i suppose i am fortunate, "the admission came quietly, letters had always been one of the few things capable of shrinking the distances between keeps and kingdoms. there were people scattered throughout the realm whom she saw rarely and yet somehow never felt entirely absent from her life.
following alysanne's gaze toward the practice yards, olynna listened with growing amusement. "you make it sound far more interesting than men repeatedly striking one another with increasingly large objects, which i admit is an impressive achievement." there was truth in what the younger woman said, of course, the tourney itself was only part of the spectacle. "i imagine you are right, half the realm has gathered here. if nothing else, there will certainly be stories to tell by the end of it." tilting her head slightly, curiosity returned. "you speak of the gatherings with the confidence of someone who already knows exactly where the most interesting moments will happen."
── .✦ “I assure you, I possess no secret knowledge. If I did, I would be considerably wealthier than I am now.” Alysanne laughed softly. “When you attend enough of these gatherings, you begin to recognize the patterns.” She shrugged. “I could not possibly say where the most interesting moment will occur. I merely know that, sooner or later, it will.”
Truthfully, it did not take much. Alysanne had always found people far too interesting to be bored by them for long. A passing conversation, an overheard remark, an unexpected friendship, even a minor disagreement could become entertaining if one paid enough attention. With half the realm gathered beneath the same roofs, she doubted there would be any shortage of things worth noticing.
Her smile widened ever so slightly. “And when in doubt,” she added lightly, “I shall simply follow the crowd. People have a remarkable talent for gathering wherever trouble is about to begin.” She lifted a brow. “Though by the way you listen, Lady Olynna, I am beginning to suspect you are rather more interested in all of this than you first claimed.”
“ losing is a fact of life. i can assure you had i been the one to have lost, i would not have stormed off like some petulant child. ” cyvasse, as it was, was nothing to be upset over. another game could be played, each a test of patience and practice in the art of it. if one did not lose how could they get better ? she allows herself a sigh, beginning to return the pieces to their respective containers for the next set to of people to lay them out for their game. “ i surely would hope not. i do not mean that in a haughty manner. it would pain me to think they have so little in their life that this game is what haunts them. ” never mind the fact that kella would much rather someone curse her name for something more … exciting.
── .✦ “A sensible outlook,” she agreed. “Though most become blinded to reason when their pride is wounded.” It was a lesson Alysanne had learned long ago, after years spent watching riverlords transform minor disagreements into matters of grave principle. Very few people enjoyed admitting defeat, and fewer still did so gracefully.
“But I imagine the sting shall fade soon enough,” she continued lightly. “They will come to realize there are far more interesting things demanding attention in King's Landing than a lost game of cyvasse.” a smile touched her lips. “Or they will find their way to a goblet of wine and drown their sorrows there. I have yet to encounter a grievance capable of surviving a generous cup of Arbor Red.”
Amusement softened her features as her smile widened slightly in response. the question earned a thoughtful hum. "some family, a few old friends." her gaze drifted briefly toward the courtyard below, watching another party arrive through the gates. "people i have not seen in a while but somehow still hear from often enough to feel as though no time has passed at all." the answer was honest, if incomplete, after all, correspondence had always been one of the few things capable of making great distances seem smaller. "and now i fear i have given you a terribly disappointing answer." her eyes returned to her, amusement lingering there. "which is unfortunate, as i suspect you were hoping for something considerably more scandalous," at the mention of the tourney, olynna laughed softly. "you are likely right, though i confess i have never possessed much talent for predicting which knight will emerge victorious," a pause followed.
── .✦ “No, not scandalous,” she interrupted. “Entertaining, perhaps.” The correction came with a mischievous smile. “The way you say that, Lady Olynna, one might think you have a terribly poor impression of me.” She paused with false offense. “And I could never be disappointed by such an answer. I find it quite… charming, actually. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have people who can make years feel like months.”
She dismissed the other’s comment with a small wave of her hand. “The victor is only part of it. Just as important is how they come to win and everything that surrounds them.” Her smile widened slightly. “There are rivalries renewed, reputations won and lost, wagers made, alliances forged, disagreements begun… The lists are merely where it all becomes visible.” Though perhaps she could afford to concern herself with such things because she already knew who would be receiving her wagers. “Either way, there is much to see and do here. I suspect boredom shall be in short supply.”

"alysanne." her name comes out in a delighted breath, dark eyes widening in surprise. she shouldn't be, really. the entire kingdom had been summoned here to king's landing, it was hardly like alysanne was going to skip out on it. yet it is still a pleasantness to come across her here now that her visits the the riverlands were few and far between, practically eliminated once it's heir got married. " it's so good to see you again! " she doesn't hesitate to move forward, embracing the woman in her arms, reminiscent of times when she looked to aly almost like a sister. " did you only just arrive ? "
── .✦ The familiar voice drew an immediate warmth to Alysanne’s expression, the kind that softened her posture before she even turned fully to face the speaker. “Catelyn,” she greeted, voice as bright as her smile.
There was no hesitation when the other closed the distance between them. Alysanne met the embrace easily, laughter slipping out in a quiet exhale as she returned it with familiar ease, as though no time had passed at all. For a brief moment, the noise of King's Landing faded into something distant, replaced by something steadier, something known.
“I arrived only this morning,” she answered once they parted, stepping back just enough to look at her properly. “I had not expected to see you quite so soon.” Her smile softened. “It feels as though it has been an age since we last spoke.” For a moment she simply regarded her, taking in familiar features that time seemed to have treated kindly. There was something comforting in finding an old friend amidst the overwhelming bustle of the capital. “How do you fare, Cat?”
The answer drew a smile from her almost immediately, there was something refreshing about hearing genuine enthusiasm amongst so many carefully measured reactions. olynna turned toward the speaker, recognition arriving a moment later. "lady alysanne," warmth colored the greeting naturally. her gaze drifted briefly back toward the courtyard. there was a certain beauty to it when viewed through the other woman's eyes. banners snapping in the breeze, old houses arriving alongside new generations, the constant movement of a realm gathered in one place. "when you describe it that way, it almost sounds charming," however olynna knew better, she by blood relation of the queen herself witnessed too much far too close. the mention of a splendid feast earned a quiet laugh. "ah, there it is. i was beginning to wonder if i was speaking to the only person in the capital who had not been tempted by food," the question that followed gave her pause, if only for a moment. "i think i am looking forward to parts of it," she admitted thoughtfully. "seeing familiar faces again, meeting those i have only heard stories about, perhaps proving to myself that the realm is not quite as grim as everyone insists it is," her smile softened slightly. "though i suspect i shall leave the excitement over tournaments and court politics to more capable hands," tilting her head, curiosity surfaced in her expression. "and what are you most eager for, my lady? surely not only the feast."
── .✦ Alysanne laughed softly. “Anything can seem charming with the right approach, Lady Olynna. Even King's Landing, on occasion.” Her gaze lingered on the Arryn, curiosity brightening her expression. “And who are these familiar faces you are hoping to see again?” she asked lightly. “You need not worry, I promise I shall not tell a soul.” The promise was accompanied by a smile that suggested it ought to be taken with at least a little suspicion.
As for herself, the answer required rather less thought. “The tourney, I think.” Her eyes drifted briefly toward the practice yards beyond the walls. “Half the realm's knights seem to have descended upon the capital. The finest, certainly, and some of the most entertaining.” One did not always equal the other. “I suspect we shall be treated to a formidable dispute.”
“ are you certain that is the move you wish to make ? ” bags had been placed in the rooms and pure curiosity to see who would be the next to pass by kept kella in the keep rather than out in the markets. a simple game of cyvasse and idle conversation ( she thought ) kept her occupied for a good portion of the afternoon, the start of the sun's rays lowering and casting shadows against the board. posed question had been one of warning, yet she supposed they'd taken it as a challenge — taking the move with more force than necessary. “ okay, ” she drawls lightly, flicking their king down onto the board with one of her catapults. “ i win. would you like to … ” begins, pausing as they abruptly push back from the table to march away quickly, looking akin to something like a lame goose. “ well .... i suppose that means there will not be another round, " she speaks in amused greeting to the next pair of eyes that meet hers.
── .✦ “I suspect not,” she replied, amusement softening her features. “Though I cannot entirely blame them. Losing gracefully is rarely anyone's strongest talent.” Playing cyvasse did not appear to be among their talents either.
It was, perhaps, an observation she appreciated more in theory than in practice. Alysanne disliked losing as much as anyone, though years of courtly expectations had taught her to conceal it beneath pleasant smiles and measured compliments. Sulking, she learned, was best reserved for private company.
Stepping closer, she allowed her attention to drift over the board, tracing the final positions of the pieces as she reconstructed the match in her mind. The outcome had clearly not been accidental.
“An impressive victory, my lady.” Her eyes met the other's. “I fear they shall be thinking about it for the remainder of the evening.”
open starter from lady olynna arryn; arriving at kingslanding — open [ 0/4 ]
The journey south had been long enough that by the time the gates of the red keep finally opened before them olynna found herself slowing almost unconsciously. perhaps it was the realization that nearly every notable noble in the realm would soon be gathered beneath the same roof. the thought was enough to make anyone uneasy. her gaze drifted upward as she crossed into the keep proper, lingering briefly upon crimson walls and familiar towers. king's landing remained much as she remembered it. vast, crowded and alive. yet beneath the movement and excitement surrounding the arrivals she could not quite shake the feeling that everyone had arrived carrying something heavier than their belongings. for a moment she simply watched the endless stream of arrivals passing through the gates, banners from every corner of westeros appearing one after another. "i wonder," she mused aloud, more to herself than anyone in particular, "if anyone is truly looking forward to this." the words escaped accompanied by a quiet laugh. perhaps it was not the safest thought to voice within the red keep but by the time she realized as much, it was already too late.
── .✦ Her gaze wandered across the crowded courtyard. Banners fluttered overhead in a hundred different colors, familiar sigils mingling with others she had only ever seen from afar, stitched upon pavilions across distant tourney fields. Lords and ladies arrived in clusters, their entourages trailing behind them, while servants hurried in every direction, attempting to impose even the slightest order upon the inevitable chaos.
“I am,” the answer came easily, accompanied by a soft smile. “There is something rather lovely about seeing a castle come alive with so many people. It feels as though half of Westeros has arrived at once.”
The sight reminded Alysanne of some lavish wedding she had once attended in the Reach, though even that gathering, which had seemed so grand at the time, felt small beside this one. There was a certain energy to King's Landing now, a restlessness humming beneath the overlapping voices, as though the entire realm had converged upon the capital at once. Perhaps that was precisely what made it all so appealing.
“Besides,” she added with a hint of amusement, “I have been promissed a splendid feast.” Her attention then turned back to the woman beside her, her head tilting slightly. “Are you not excited, my lady?”

・・・✶ BIOGRAPHY !
── .✦ FAMILY, DUTY, HONOR
Raised amidst the rushing rivers and welcoming halls of Riverrun, from an early age Alysanne proved both curious and sociable, eager to insert herself into conversations beyond her years and rarely content to sit quietly when there was something new to learn. Surrounded by siblings, cousins, retainers, and guests who passed through the heart of the realm, she developed an early love for stories, people, and the intricate web of relationships that bound Westeros together.
As the youngest, nobody expected her to carry Riverrun on her shoulders, which gave her the luxury of developing ideas rather than simply managing duties. Alysanne enjoyed freedoms not always afforded to her elder siblings. Expectations remained, but they rested less heavily, granting her room to explore her interests. Quick to laughter, quicker still to curiosity, she earned a reputation as an affectionate and spirited presence within her family, though one possessed of a stubborn streak that emerged whenever she believed herself to be right.
── .✦ FEASTS, FAVORS, FAR-REACHING DREAMS
As she entered adulthood, Alysanne's world expanded far beyond the walls of her family seat. Accompanying Tully delegations to weddings, tournaments, celebrations, and noble courts throughout the realm, she eagerly embraced every opportunity to see new places and meet new people. Though many viewed such occasions as little more than diversions and wanderings of a carefree lady, she viewed them as a duty of their own. The Riverlands sit at the heart of Westeros, and she believes its future depends as much upon relationships as armies, learning that feasts, dances, and tourneys often revealed as much about the realm as council chambers did.
The more of Westeros Alysanne saw, the more she wished to see. She was captivated by the diversity of the realm, its great castles and bustling ports, its ancient traditions and regional identities, its rivalries, loyalties, and endless stories. Rather than diminishing her love for the Riverlands, these travels strengthened it, as she began to envision a future in which the Riverlands occupied a stronger and more respected position within the political landscape. Though she held no illusions of wielding power directly, she came to understand that influence often moved through quieter channels: reputation, diplomacy, and favor cultivated over years rather than won in a single moment. It was a lesson House Tully had long understood. In a region defined by crossroads, competing ambitions, and conflicting loyalties, their greatest strength had never been dominance, but the ability to endure, mediate, and keep the peace where others might have allowed division to prevail.
── .✦ LONGING, LOYALTY, LEGACY
Now six-and-twenty, Alysanne is known throughout noble circles for her charm, grace, and love of courtly life. She is often mistaken for a woman concerned solely with songs, celebrations, and beautiful things, and, while she enjoys all three immensely, those who know her well understand that beneath her easy smile lies a sharp mind, a determined spirit, and ambitions that extend far beyond herself.
Her first loyalty remains with House Tully, followed closely by the Riverlands she holds so dear. Yet Alysanne's hopes are not confined solely to her family or homeland. She dreams of a more united realm, stronger bonds between regions, and a future in which the Riverlands are remembered not as a battleground between greater powers, but as a force worthy of respect in its own right. After all, the Riverlands feed kingdoms, connect kingdoms, and bleed for kingdoms. Why, then, should they be remembered only for the wars fought upon them?
For all her certainty, however, Alysanne remains a woman caught between competing desires: duty and independence, loyalty and ambition, home and the wider world that continues to call to her. She dreams of unity, yet knows the realm is increasingly shaped by those who seek advantage rather than peace. The Riverlands are no exception. Ambitious neighbors, opportunistic allies, lingering grievances, and competing interests all threaten to pull at the seams of it all. Alysanne has never learned to be satisfied with simply accepting the world as it is. Instead, she remains determined to leave it better than she found it, even as she begins to understand that good intentions alone rarely shape history.
・・・✶ HEADCANNONS !
Alysanne was, by every reasonable definition, a spoiled child. Not in the way that made servants weep or cousins dread her arrival, but in the quiet, dangerous way that comes from growing up beloved in a family that rarely denied her anything. She was charming enough to talk her way out of punishments, stubborn enough to wear down most objections, and clever enough to know exactly which parent, sibling, aunt, or uncle to approach when she wanted something. Riverrun indulged her endless curiosities, her requests for new horses, books, ribbons, lessons, and little adventures, until she developed the unconscious expectation that persistence would eventually make the world bend. For years, it often did. So one of adulthood's biggest frustrations has been realizing that outside Riverrun, being a Tully daughter does not automatically make people care what she thinks. And she hates that realization
She was one of those children who constantly wandered off. Servants were forever finding young Alysanne halfway across Riverrun asking stablehands questions, watching fishermen unload their catch, or sitting with travelers who had stopped at the castle. She rarely got into serious trouble, just simply impossible to keep track of
Alysanne is an excellent rider. She rides comfortably for long distances, knows how to pace a journey properly, and trusts horses more than she trusts most vehicles. If given the choice between a carriage and a horse, she will probably choose a carriage, for the comfort, but she absolutely adores horses. She names all of them. Even horses that do not belong to her. Especially horses that do not belong to her. If she spends more than a few days somewhere, she will have nicknames for half the stable
She collects stories wherever she travels. She wants to hear local legends, family histories, absurd gossip, old songs, tales of famous battles, and accounts of places that no longer exist. Her chambers are filled with notebooks containing half-finished anecdotes and observations. She rarely cares whether a story is entirely true, what interests her is why people choose to tell it and what it reveals about them
Nothing makes her happier than standing beside a river she has never seen before. There is something deeply comforting to her about moving water. Whenever she travels, she inevitably finds her way toward harbors, riverbanks, streams, canals, or lakes. She often finds herself staring at the water, wondering where it began and where it will eventually end. She likes to imagine that every river in Westeros is somehow connected to the Riverlands, even when she knows perfectly well that this is not true
She has an excellent memory for names and faces, often to an unsettling degree. Alysanne can remember meeting a minor knight's daughter at a feast years ago and still recall her family's seat, her siblings' names, and the conversation they shared. Some people mistake this for calculation, but the truth is that she is genuinely interested in others. She believes relationships are built through remembering small things, and few gestures earn loyalty faster than making someone feel seen
She has a competitive streak that appears unexpectedly and often over very small things. Put her in any situation with clear rules and a winner at the end, and suddenly she becomes alarmingly determined, whether it is cyvasse, archery contests, card games, or betting on tournament outcomes. Sometimes she even creates useless competitions (identifying house sigils from a distance, naming rivers, recognizing regional accents…) that exist only in her own head. Either way, Alysanne dislikes losing far more than she is willing to admit. Fortunately, she is usually graceful enough to hide it
Alysanne can become incredibly grumpy while traveling. Under normal circumstances she is patient, diplomatic, and pleasant company. After three consecutive nights at mediocre inns, however, she develops very strong opinions about absolutely everything. The horses are too slow. The roads are poorly maintained. The food is disappointing. The weather is personally insulting her. She tends to recover immediately after a proper night's sleep
She is one of those people who hears music and immediately wants to move, whether it is an elegant court dance in a great hall or musicians playing for a harvest celebration somewhere along the Trident. Years of practice have made her an excellent dancer, graceful without seeming overly rehearsed, quick to learn new steps, and confident enough to guide less experienced partners through them. More than once she has remained at a feast long after she intended to retire simply because the music was too good to leave behind
She adores tourneys with an enthusiasm that borders on embarrassing. She follows the lists with the same enthusiasm she follows court gossip. To her, a tournament is as much a sporting event as it is a living map of the realm's relationships. She could spend an entire day watching who sits beside whom, which houses exchange gifts, who celebrates together after the feast, and which smiles never quite reach the eyes. Whenever circumstances allow, she attends tourneys across the realm, claiming it is an excellent opportunity to strengthen political relationships, which is true, but not the whole truth. The reality is that she simply loves the spectacle of it all: the banners, the crowds, the horses, the pageantry, and the stories that emerge from every competition. She has spent years insisting she attends for political reasons while somehow ending up with detailed opinions on jousting techniques and knightly rivalries
