Sooo this au is very loosely based on the manga centaurs by ryo sumiyoshi for the basic ideas. Tbh I haven’t read it in a hot minute but I WANTED HORSE YAOI. And it's not. So I’m making my own. (Still in love with it thooo)

Centaurs and humans coexist with each other for the most part but there are tensions as some humans treat centaurs like they’re not really people and instead enslave them. (I’m not keeping the cutting their arms off) That’s the premise of the manga, now for my own bullshit!

Here, there is an entire country of humans that banded together in order to force the centaurs into said slavery, they kidnap wild youngs, kill their parents and train them to obey humans. These humans then do population control and cough eugenics by picking and choosing which centaurs reproduce and which get castrated to be more tamed and docile.

Shen Jiu and Yue Qingyuan were born into this slavery and then sj got sold to qjl like in canon where he met sy. At first, he hated sy bc he hates humans but through a few things and events they ended up becoming unlikely brothers and fleeing together making sj very much a wanted criminal in that area (when they reunite with yqy there’s tension but sy helps smooth the relationship)

However, wild centaurs obviously don’t take the slavery lying down and have created an entire army of their own composed of different prestigious centaur clans (one of which being lqg’s clan) in order to fight back.

All in all, this war is more of a background and backstory thing. Cang Qiong mountain herd is a safe place for young centaurs to train and learn life far from the conflicts. The teachers are young adult centaurs (our svsss cast) who have trained under previous illustrious centaurs that either retired or went back to the battlefield.

Each year, they hold a grand council and ceremony with all the horse clans to see how the world is going, what territories are safe and which are not, give aid or advice on what should be done and to have a big ceremony with a feast and a friendly competition to see who’s best ofc. Many centaur clans use this opportunity to meddle in their children’s love life and arrange marriages.

And there are paranormal/mythological centaurs, (all of the demons in svsss) because I said so. But they’re considered more like legends. And I don’t know if I want them to be cultivator horses or just regular horses… anyway this part I haven’t thought about too much yet.

That’s for the geopolitical situation! On to biology!

There are (basically) three horse ‘sexes’, mares, stallions and geldings. They just indicate their genital situations and that has absolutely zero bearing on their human body. For example, sj is male human torso plus female horse body = mare, same but male horse for stallions. Geldings are castrated stallions. Because it’s one of the first thing humans do when they catch a centaur or when a centaur is born in human hands, it’s extremely common but it does mark you as previously having been human ‘property’ (whether it’s true or not). Obviously geldings can’t reproduce and they’re considered amiable and a bit soft. I’m making yqy one bc he has no metaphorical balls might as well make it literal lol

There is a certain social hierarchy with the herds and clans putting the strongest horse at the forefront. It can be any sex but it’s typically a stallion. On cq it’s obviously yqy but since he’s a gelding there’s also the feeling that the strongest stallion is as looked at as he is so lqg has a bit more say in how everything runs (but he’s too stupid to do much beyond breaking fights lol)

Mares have heats, typically around spring which is what they’re called (but not obligated) and it’s very usual for them to find a stallion just for that and nothing more or to say you’d like to be with them. There's stereotypes between mares and stallions, like stallions are more competitive, arrogant and aggressive. (Regular omegaverse stuff)

You can guess what mounting someone means, I’m not making a diagram.

There’s also different morphologies, like draft horses, warhorses, racehorses, ponies <3 etc… each have your typical stereotypes associated with ‘em (once again not true for everyone just stereotypes) like drafts being gentle, racehorses being anxious af, ponies being dainty… dumb stuff I haven’t fully figured out but I think it could be fun to have then subvert. An example is lqg’s clan being cavalry horses meaning a mix between a racehorse and a warhorse (this isn’t a real thing cavalry horses are just normal horses but here it’s special bc I said so) so he’s a bit jumpy, has a very stubborn streak but is really strong and upright.

Here’s also a few things I am patching from real life horses: lame ass flexibility, not being able to throw up and therefore being weak as fuck to stomachaches, not being able to lay down for long periods of time, have a hard time going backwards, I’m sure there’s more, horses are after all, stupid ass creatures (that I love)

Behaviors and social groups now!

I have exactly one! Horse slur, it’s parade horse! When humans train slave centaurs a lot of them train them with dressage techniques and tricks and parade around on them. So if a centaur calls another centaur a parade horse, at best it means being very showoffy and flamboyant, at worst it’s being called a species traitor. Sj gets called that one behind his back and to his face bc well technically he was and the way he fights uses dressage techniques into it. At first he hid quite a bit of who he was but with sy he has a better relationship with himself and others even if he’s still a prick haha

Centaurs don’t use what they call human weapons (like swords and daggers) and prefer long range since at close range either they are very vulnerable to blades or can just kick and crush whoever is making trouble. Shen Jiu though, always has a concealed dagger on him, for safety ofc and NOT because he’s anxious without it.

There is also a great deal of human horsefuckers and special brothels to go with them. You can guess where sj likes to hang around and what kind of assumptions ppl make about him. And qjl was one too, having a whole stable of mares that were ‘for his younger sister’. It’s not illegal for centaurs and humans to have relationships but everyone will think you’re a freak so he always pretended in front of others.

I have a whole plotline with the girls of the warm red stables (I’m very creative) being sj’s old jiejies from his time in the qiu manor that I won’t go into details about for spoiler reasons! I’ll make it real but it’ll probably take years! But I will! because I want to!

There’s a few special horse things like when a stallion rears around another stallion he's looking for a fight but around a mare it’s pretty explicit sexual advances. Grooming between friends and family is fine but bathing with someone outside of family is very intimate (horses aren’t the best swimmers so it’s a show of trust). Centaurs can threaten to ‘break your legs’ as an actual death threat even if they can heal a broken leg. It’s a remnant of the time where a broken leg meant death.

I’m saying all that bc I want lqg to be a complete idiot zero social cues horse who pesters sj thinking he’s a gelding not realising he’s making advances. And fighting with him with mqf in the background saying he’ll break their legs if they keep going lol

Anyway, rich boy stallions are more or less expected to have harems so everyone assumes that’s why lqg’s behaving like this except the Liu clan is run by his mare mother and grandmother who are incredible war heroes and he’s very respectful and if they find out how he’s been behaving, no matter that it was an accident, he’ll get beheaded.

They also do cute horse things like stomping their feet when they’re angry, they snort, maybe nip each other playfully, roll around, yk horse stuff. Frolicking idk.

All in all, it’s just meant to be a relaxing time with the horsies, I don’t really have a full story, just bits and pieces that I think are interesting. I’ll see what I do with it later so everything isn’t exactly set in stone but once I get it I’ll make something of it o⏖o
