Barb and I made a special Mother’s Day dinner for my mom (Moroccan Lamb with couscous, roasted carrots and her favorite dessert, Tiramisu). It was tasty!

We looked at a lot of old photos together since I wanted to have digital copies for myself.

I also enjoyed doing a few projects for her during my stay:

Digging up her garden area

Yard work: clean gutters, repaint deck rail, pull weeds

This one was different from the 3 others. It was located in a forested woodland overlooking the Little Miami river. We enjoyed hiking through, and around the site. The birding was excellent.

Another difference was the extensive and informative displays at the on site museum which explored not only history, but many aspects of the indigenous culture.

1. Newark Earthworks, Great Circle Ceremonial Site (it is big, 30 acres) and old (built ~100BC). It’s part of a much larger complex of structures that once covered about 3000 acres.

2. Hopewell Culture National Historical Park: Mound City Complex. These are 2000 year old burial mounds.

3. Serpent Mound, the largest effigy mound in the world. It is about 6-8 ft wide, 3-5 ft tall and 1400 ft along the spine of the snake.

Today, we visited MoCP (Museum of Contemporary Photography) 50th anniversary exhibit, the Bean, Palmer House Hotel, Chicago Athletic Assn. Lobby, Central Camera, and had a tasty lunch at Cafecito.

We had a long pleasant walk (and audio tour) today along the Mississippi River.

We stopped at Open Book for a coffee and some browsing before lunch at Owamni, where we had; popcorn and crickets, mushroom soup, bison tartare and maple and vanilla “flan” for dessert. Our pre colonial, indigenous lunch was both interesting and delicious.

After lunch we walked to UofM’s Weiseman Art Museum to see the building—designed by Frank Gehry.
