Eastern Caverns: The Return of the Shadow Clan.
This is a short summary of a story for the Eastern caverns and the Shadow Clan of that Cavern.
Since I won’t be writing this in the usual story format, I'll summarize it in this post. Also, heads up, my writing isn’t the best here, so it’s a bit off. It has been a while since the last time I wrote something long.
The story starts off with Junjie fighting one of the few remaining underlords still loyal to the Emperor. In the middle of the slugslinging, Junjie suddenly feels pain all over his body; he tries to ignore and fight through the pain, but nothing works. While it seems like all is lost for the Eastern Champion, Swick and Sleade arrive just in time to blast the underlords and save Junjie.
Seeing their friend in pain, they take him to Lian’s place. At the place, Lian checks on Junjie; she is both worried and surprised about what’s causing this sudden pain. Lian has no clue, so the group takes Junjie to the only remaining Shadow Clanner in the Eastern Caverns, Shadow Claus (Nicknamed by Eli).
At Shadow Claus’s place, the clan member examines Junjie, who is still in severe pain but is trying his best to deal with it. Claus has a theory about what is causing Junjie such immense suffering. He deduces that back when Junjie was possessed by Goon Doc, under the 20 years of possession, Junjie’s body wasn’t allowed to grow and mature like other humans at a normal speed. But now that the Eastern Champion isn’t possessed anymore, his body is growing and maturing at a rapid and abnormal speed, causing immense pain in the process. This could lead to his death if Junjie’s body gives up to the pain.
The group is, of course, terrified and wants to find a way to cure Junjie before his time is out. Swick suggests that they can use a Boon Doc and heal Junjie as they did with Lian back then, but Claus points out that the Boon Doc they need is in the 99 Caverns, and that they might not have enough time to get the slug, or even find a White Boon Doc, since healer slugs are so rare to find, and if they manage to find one, it won’t help, they need strong slugs for this.
Luckily, they do have the other four Elemental slugs.
Claus has an idea. He reveals that the Shadow Clan has a strange ability that looks strange from an outsider’s POV. This ability is called energy channeling. They can Channel Energy from the slugs to themselves and vice versa.
(Basically this. Back to this later.)
Maybe with the help of the four Elementals, he can transfer enough energy to Junjie so his body can make it through the rapid growth. Of course, he can’t do it alone, he needs at least one or three other Shadow Clanners to help him with the energy transfer.
All four humans believe that would be impossible, after all, the Shadow Clanners of the East lost hope of saving the Eastern Caverns during the Emperor’s rule, so they left, leaving Claus as the only remaining one.
Claus retorts, saying that there’s no way his kind left the Caverns since he was there when they all were imprisoned in another realm.
Through further questioning, it is revealed that the Eastern Shadow Clan were ready to fight the Emperor’s army, but along the way, they were all tricked and imprisoned in another realm. Claus was the only one who managed to escape.
He was gonna say something to the creatures and the humans, but with the lack of slugs in some caverns, he picked up the mantle to deliver slugs to the caverns that needed them. He got so busy with slug delivery that the plan to save his kind slipped his mind. Also cause he knew he couldn’t save them all alone. He needed strong slugs.
Learning this info, the group of now five goes to look for where the Eastern Shadow Clan’s last battle was with the help of Claus leading them there. They also take the four Elementals with them, leaving a few energy slugs Claus had trained just in case the Elementals were needed.
On their way, they do encounter some ups and downs, such as the few loyal underlords, but they managed, though. Junjie had to push through the pain during the whole journey. The group finds the final battleground where the Eastern Shadow Clan fought the Emperor’s stone warriors. Remains of stone warriors are scattered on the ground as the group looks around to find the Prison gate.
They do end up finding the gate, but the gate is a bit broken because of the passage of time. The group fixes the gate using the Elemental slugs. And with further help from the Elemental slugs, they open the gate, and the Eastern Shadow Clan is finally free from the prison realm.
The Eastern Shadow Clanners hadn’t aged at all. The prison realm acted as a limbo, so time doesn’t pass there.
They thank the group, and in return, they help Junjie. Four clan members who are capable of transferring energy to another being who isn’t, step up. Those four are the Shadow Emperor, Claus, and two other members.
Each member holds one Elemental slug with one of their hands, while placing their other hands on Junjie’s head, heart, and limbs. Through this ritual, they transfer the energy through the slugs and themselves over to Junjie, giving his body enough energy to deal with the pain and growth. During this process, Swick, Lian, Sleade, and the other Shadow Clanners watch as Junjie's facial features, height, and body change and grow rapidly until he looks around 30-ish. Lian comments that he kind of looks like his ancestor: Yang.
Once the ritual is over, Junjie looks like his age, and he’s no longer in immense pain and suffering. The group thanks the Shadow Clan for their help before they all leave.
With the Shadow Clan now back in the Eastern Caverns, they help out and protect both the caverns, slugs, creatures, and humans from the remaining enemy still causing some minor trouble.
The head canon for this scene:
It’s never explained what they’re doing here or even why. But I have a head canon that this is just something they do to channel energy and life force with the slugs, making them somewhat semi-immortal and powerful. Since it’s unknown how old the Shadow Clan is, we could guess that they age slowly and live a long time compared to the creatures of Slugterra thanks to this energy channeling ritual they’re doing with the slugs.
Since slugs bring energy and life to the caverns, who's to say they also extend and share this energy with creatures and humans?
The Shadow Clan protect the caverns and slugs, and in return they get life energy so they can continue with their work.
But I’m just rambling here.
