All the horrors aside, it's so adorable that their dolls are leaning against each other in the ending

Artemy's in the middle with Daniil's back resting against his arm and chest, Clara's head supported by Artemy's shoulder. His doll is the one thing keeping both of them from falling, and in turn, their dolls keep him upright by pushing with equal force from opposite directions.

The symbolism of the painting behind them, Daniil and Clara each are on extreme opposite ends, yet are part of the same foundation/wall surrounding the town. Showing how both of them have priorities that don't necessarily lay in this town, and a part of their motivation is outside of it or at least on the fence. While Artemy's head is directly inside the town, in front of the shortest of houses.

Daniil and Artemy's dolls are more intertwined, much like their stories are. Showing how they needed each other in combating the plague, Daniil relaying on Artemy for the panacea while Artemy required Daniil for the samples tests. Artemy breaking Daniil from jail and Daniil giving Artemy the password to get inside the tower.
