andrey and eva as a couple does work. andrey is incredibly paranoid and attentive. he in classic does not receive one letter for one day (that he exchanges everyday since the plague started with her) and freaks the fuck out about his girlfriends disappearance. this is objectively who eva should be dating. (he counters her passivity by being extremely active as a partner) when she refers to him as condescending, it's a statement about how he tends to protect people & want to play saviour when his good intentions are often misguided. every person in classic andrey has a relationship with (including maria but in a different way than most people do) sees this in action.
i have a feeling that the reason theyre not dating in the remakes (*not as explicitly in the context of p3) is for a few reasons. i think the remakes are less willing to criticize andrey and protray him in a both condescending and caring light to the extent classic does. (which is what evas relationship with him is ultimately tied to narratively because she points it out explicitly) and i think the remakes arent interested in eva being her own person. in classic, when andrey freaks out over evas disappearance it symbolizes the level at which daniil didn't know who eva was. he's surprised by andreys reaction, and surprised that she had a whole life outside of him he didn't know about. he's surprised by how much andrey clearly loved eva. (the fact they are kind of an odd couple on a surface level creates more questions about who eva was) and it's a really intense moment wherein daniil is taken out of his own grief and his paranoia to make evas death about himself and focus on evas life without him. and andrey then takes care of him. (which daniil is never someone who needs to be looked after, thank you very much) he's going to be looked after in the stillwater. the whole thing shatters daniils perception of evas death and to some level his perception of himself.

Sorry, but I'm just sad about how Eva Yan probably internalized the dismissiveness people treat her with. She doesn't think highly of herself, doesn't consider her life to be valuable and it is seen throughout all three games! Eva is casual about Andrey being condescending to her according to her own words in p1. She's wondering if her life is empty in p2 when she's talking about her dream to Artemy. And in p3 it doesn't look like Simon showed her much respect either. And what can it be but misogyny of the society she lives in? They see Eva Yan as a beautiful promiscuous woman and nothing else, because they don't think she can be anything else. Urgh. Eva, get behind me. I'm glad that at least Yulia sees the real her at the very least.
