While I agree with your argument that trans headcanons aren't wrong in anyway and that we should expand trans/queer representation in canon media, I think that it's also important to understand that people wanting to see characters identify as their baseline identities is okay too.

Erasing an identity that is a majority just so an identity that is a minority can thrive is just as bad as erasing a minority (I'm not saying that's what you're doing, but it can be taken that way). I don't mean to get political, but this is the mentality of Isreal, claiming that it should be allowed to commit mass genocide because Judaism had historically been the victim of a genocide as well (ahem, WWII)...

All in all, I don't think that it's queerphobic or even wrong for people to like a cishet character to be cishet, just like it's okay for people to headcanon cishet characters as queer. People shouldn't be attacked for it, anyways.

As a member of the queer community (panromantic enby) I think that it's a bit refreshing to see a cishet character every once in a while, even if I do love all of the queer headcanons.

I do 100% agree that there is nothing wrong with a cishet character being cishet. If it came off that way I didn’t mean it to. I mean I completely understand people wanting to see themselves in characters like I do. I was just trying to vent about the hatred I’ve received for me merely connecting with a character in my own way you know? I’m just saying that you can like a character the way they are but don’t go harass people for having a different headcannon or try to push them away from said headcannon because it’s not how you see it. It’s was never about the character being cishet it’s about the people who were being rude to me about seeing a character from a trans pov.

I don’t think headcannons do erase the cishet representation of the character because that was always in that form of media. People can draw and write cishet characters as being cishet and people can draw and write them as being trans that is just their own version of said character.

“Well I don’t understand why they can’t be straight and cis?” They’re most likely already straight and cis so go enjoy them being straight and cis anyway. My headcannon doesn’t change that they are canonically cis or straight

“Why can’t you let a cis woman be masculine” they can, but also why can’t you let a trans man be feminine or a trans woman be masculine? We face the need to fit in these gender norms too even worse some times because trans women get harassed for looking too masculine and we are just misgendered for wearing something that makes you look too fem or masc.

“Well that’s not how the author wrote it and that’s not the author’s vision for the character” Author’s aren’t sacred. When you put a work out there it’s always up for interpretation. Many people see stories differently, many people love a certain character or story others hate. If you want to be 100% true to what the author wants a character to be then fine but don’t harass me or other people who interpret it differently. And… is shipping wrong then? Is drawing a character different than how they look on model or described wrong?
