jeremy clarkson's "i'm not only in touch with my feminine side, i'm in touch with my gay side as well." to me has the same energy as greg davies' "i like men, i like women. it's all good." (don't remember greg's exact words, sorry)
one thing i never understood about broadchurch is the derek acorah psychic guy's purpose. i get why people like that might get involved in police investigations irl, that's not my question and maybe the novelisation which i'm currently reading is more clear about it, though i'm only about 100 pages in. but as it stands, he shows up at the police station as a tech guy, gets kicked out, tries to connect with beth and in the show he is then removed from police once again after it's revealed he's a kind of fraud and has several convictions and then i don't think we ever see him again (though i could he wrong about that my memory is a bit fuzzy).
maybe i just expected there to be more to him. and i'm not even sure what i mean by that. but he just leaves and never comes up again. no attempt of him to contact the media after the fact and be like "oh i told the police these things all along and they ignored me" or something like that but no. it feels a bit anti-climactic especially with all the other plot lines having quite exaggerated outcomes in my opinion.
like, you know, the husband having an affair, the sister possessing drugs (in the show the novel hasn't mentioned them so far) and having an older boyfriend, the vicar being an ex-alcoholic, nige's mum, everything going on with hardy, etc. i suppose i expected it to be grander as well. but it just peters out into nothingness.
also i'm not criticising the inclusion of this character. i think steve is a fantastic character in a fictional murder mystery. and having a bad psychic (and let's be real steve isn't good at this stuff) is quite entertaining.
i mean i think people who claim to be psychics irl are scum and frauds preying on vulnerable people, but the character is entertaining. i whish they would have done more with him / gone deeper.

i don't watch / listen to many (british) panel shows, however, the ones i do have experienced often include a certain homoerotic component between the host and the regulars or, if present, the two hosts.
i think taskmaster is the most extreme case of that, but i've also noticed it in would i lie to you, the big fat quiz, qi, tech dif, i'm sorry i haven't a clue, and potentially others that have slipped my mind. i know it's played for laughs but i still find it fascinating.
i think everyone knows the fifa is one of the most corrupt organisations, right? but wow. they've reached new lows (and the us too). the fucking us president called up fifa because one of the us players had received a red card (justified or not doesn't matter right now because it was the referee's decision and that *should* be the end of it) and the player was unbanned because of that. that's insane. and apparently other countries are now trying something similar?
look, i love football. i've played it since i could walk. but professional football has gotten ridiculous in the worst ways possible.
can't sleep so i'm watching top gear compilations and i noticed how often richard refers to james' car knowledge when he's himself unsure about something especially during the earlier years.
first time i played assassin's creed odyssey i don't think i ever picked the romance option.
second time playing assassin's creed odyssey and alexios is going to sleep his way across the greek world.
book and kind used to hook up? oh it's fucking christmas!

jack thinking trottie is his mum is honestly so fucking real. i mean in most tv shows that would have been the revelation (or him being book's son). now i'm only at episode 4's end so it hasn't been entirely spelled out yet, but i do think that the man jack has a photograph of is indeed his father and that he and book were together (i mean the latter is shown), though that leaves the question of who jack's mum is wide open. i thought it was trottie as well, but apparently not. hopefully it's revealed by the end of series 1.
the opening titles for bookish slap, by the way. gorgeous.
i'm sorry but there are only few things more rewarding than earning the trust of an animal. been looking after my sister's cat for the last couple of days and she's incredibly skittish and afraid / wary of strangers and unwilling to be near them. but today she came asking for pets, purred, and didn't want me to leave
just barely five minutes into bookish and i have to say book's dialogue reminds me so much of sherlock's dialogue i'm willing to bet mark gatiss wrote sherlock's dialogue for the bbc show.
shouldn't be surprised that there are similarities between gabriel book and sherlock (in terms of written dialogue and behaviour) but i didn't expect there to be so many. on one hand it's fascinating, on the other i now believe mark gatiss did the majority of the writing on sherlock.
watched the first three episodes of bookish last night and i must say i do enjoy it quite a bit. the writing works better here than in sherlock, although it showcases in my opinion the same flaws. but at least book isn't as much of a dickhead and actually kind to the people around him. i also want to point out the set design and costumes. they're gorgeous.

i'm all for people celebrating / partying especially with 35° outside (don't know how i'll survive the weekend when we expect temperatures of 40-41°) but if your music can be heard clearly across the entire neighbourhood even with closed windows we're gonna have a problem (especially if it's schlager music. i swear to god why does anyone listen to that voluntarily).
they're still going and it's nearing 2 am... since midnight they switched to the worst most bass-filled techno. my walls are literally shaking.
once again. have fun celebrating your weddings or whatever bollocks you want to celebrate but some people want to sleep at a reasonable time for many reasons. just fucking turn it down. i'm this close to actually becoming the neighbour to call the cops and file a noise complaint and i cannot stress enough that i'm not an immediate neighbour...
been talking with some neighbours who can't sleep either and apparently the police has been called several times but they're doing nothing whatsoever. great.
like, there's a universal curfew (don't know how else to describe this) which allows for private parties to play loud music until 10 pm, with a permit until midnight. public events have the same curfew but with a permit they can play music up until 2 am. this is a private party, and public events announce when they're happening weeks beforehand so you can plan ahead...
this just sucks. i'm glad i'm not working at the bakery anymore where i had to work on saturdays (like my shift began at around 1 am), however, after a long and hot day i just want to sleep. i don't know i'd say common sense wouldn't allow for this to happen. i'm not against parties, i'm not against playing music until the wee hours of the morning, but at this volume it's just fucking rude (and potentially illegal). i don't understand why people are so inconsiderate. if they'd just turn the music down it'd be a massive improvement. honestly, and i know i'm going to sound like a knobhead, but i hope there'll be legal consequences for these people.
