Amy doesn’t assume full-on train wreck status at first. She’s got a stable job at S'Nuffmagazine, a nice apartment and seems fairly happy. Sure, she has sex as if scientists had discovered that banging was the key to immortality. Amy also occasionally drinks until she blacks out like an overloaded power grid. For the most part, these things don’t negatively affect her life.

However, after meeting Aaron Conners, a successful sports surgeon played by Bill Hader, Amy starts wanting something new. Waking up next to the same person every morning doesn’t sound like an idea worse than skydiving using fishnet stockings for a parachute.

That’s not something she accepts easily, though.

Following this realization, she’s unable to let go of her father’s advice that monogamy is impossible. That’s when Amy goes off the rails and enters train wreck territory. She pushes away Aaron, and loses her job after almost giving a 16-year-old boy a hands-on sex education lesson. She was drunk, of course.
