Hockey has become the core of Loretto Abbey's sporting heart, and in its fifth year, the Charity Cup exhibition game poised the hockey team's stellar girls' hockey program against the school's staff. It was a wonderful affair, and the day raised funds for the Angel Foundation for Learning.

Newsflash: water polo is a fun sport to watch! In a humid swimming pool in North York, Northview Heights and Victoria Park competed in a late season tilt.

Eastern Commerce has sent more students to US post-secondary schools than any other school in Toronto.

On May 15, five more students signed their commitments (left to right): Iman Hassan to Lindenwood University, James Sylvester  to Northwest Kansas Technical College, Tyler Stone to Howard University, Tayla Gibb  to University of Detroit Mercy and Surayya Palmer to Arkansas Baptist College.

We told you they were that good. The Marshall McLuhan track team is the fourth best high school team in Canada! With a small squad of sophmores, the Rebels took on older students and still persevered!

Three students won medals in their national debuts! Congrats!

The Royal St. George’s Knights tennis team has their sights focused on the playoffs, as they have yet to be defeated this season.

The Annex-based squad has handled their competition in dominant fashion. Lead by Luke Hoover, Jet Bent-Lee and Joe Dickson, the Knights have lost all but three individual matches in their four team competitions this season. All three boys have yet to lose a match.

Sitting at 4–0 as of press time, the first-place Knights have wins over St. Mike’s, Bayview Glen, Trinity College School and Lakefield College School. 

To kickoff their 45th campaign in the Intercounty Baseball League, the Toronto Maple Leafs got out of the gates strong, beating the London Majors 9–4 on May 5.

The St. Mike’s Blues got their first win of the season in senior boys’ division one rugby, as they defeated Appleby College on May 8.

The 48–12 victory, a home game for St. Mike’s, was a landslide from start to finish, as they used their speed to dodge the physicality from Appleby. 

After tough early-season losses to rivals Upper Canada College and Crescent School — they struggled to score, only notching 10 points in those losses — they lost a sprint meet of a match against Trinity College School, a 37–27 loss May 1. 

Lead by coach Steve Bailey, they got their offensive structure in check, leading early and often.

The Oakwood Barons are out and the UTS Blues are moving on in Tier-1 girls soccer.

In the south region quarterfinal match held at the Varsity Centre on May 8, the fourth-place Blues squeezed out a 1–0 win over the fifth-place Malvern Black Knights. 

The win extends UTS’ season, where they went 4–2 and scored 11 goals in six games. They will face the Leaside Lancers, the defending city champions, May 13.

The Lancers come into the semi finals with a record of 5-0-1 with their only draw coming against Humberside who finished second in the Tier-1 south regionals. 

The Northern Red Knights ultimate frisbee team are 2013 national champions!

Entering last weekend's championship in Mississauga as the third seed, the squad toppled top-seeded St. John's-Ravenscourt from Manitoba in the finals! A close game throughout, the Red Knights came back to win via a "universe point," a winner-take-all point in high school ultimate frisbee play.

Congrats guys!

The second Fight to End Cancer is drawing near, but the main event doesn't feature big name pro boxers like Lucien Bute or Jean Pascal. The fighters are corporate suits, Matt Hehn, left, and John Morrison, looking to raise funds for the Princess Margaret Foundation.

Loretto Abbey, at North Toronto Arena, held their annual Charity Cup hockey game May 1! With staff facing off against the TDCAA champion Loretto Abbey Gators, they raised $3,800 for the Angel Foundation for Learning.

The Leaside Lancers scored five unanswered goals to thrash the North Toronto Norsewomen in girls' soccer April 29.

The Northern Red Knights and North Toronto Norsemen resumed their rivalry Apr. 25, this time on the rugby pitch. A last-minute penalty kick produced a 20–19 victory for North Toronto.
