I can see Ryland trying to gaslight himself about his feelings for Colt like "I'm not in love with him I just care for him and we're really close!" So he convinces himself that he's in love with someone else (his thought process is "I feel vastly different about them than I do Colt so this MUST be romantic love")

Eventually they start dating, and yayyy Ryland is going to get such a good grade at being a boyfriend! Colt is heartbroken at this, Ryland didn't even tell him he had a crush but he looks so excited about this so as long as his brother is happy he'll suck it up and start planning to be the best man at the love of his life's wedding

But Colt starts noticing weird things about Ryland, like Ryland wearing long sleeves in the summer heat, canceling plans because "oh they've been feeling neglected so I'm taking them out on a date..." even though they spend 80% of their time together, looking terrified at his phone ringing, laughing off when his partner makes digs at him. And Colt thinks he's just being jealous

But one day he sees bruising on HIS baby brother, Ryland says it was a accident that they didn't mean to, he just made them mad, Colt has to drag him to his house so he doesn't go back to them, now all he has to do is get his Ry to leave that piece of trash, find out who convinced him that that was love and make sure it never happens again

i don’t think he’s actually the type but i want him to find this person and teach them what happens when they mess not only with his baby brother’s feelings, but also with his physical safety

After they meet Rocky both of the boys forget to mention that they are siblings and after watching human shows learns that humans that share last names are mates so he just works under that assumption (and that they are doing the gross leaky human mate stuff while he's asleep)
