Echo and Crosshair talk about their twins.

Pabu has the most beautiful sunsets he’s ever seen. It almost makes him forget that the hike down to the rocky outcroppings on the edge of the island isn’t easy on his metal legs. They make it harder to get footing sometimes especially now that he has to do the upgrades and repairs himself.

He can see the lone figure on the cliff bathed in the golden light of the sun just barely touching the horizon.

Crosshair doesn’t turn as Echo walks up behind him. He’d heard the man grumbling about his legs most of the way down. Echo sits beside him letting the silence wash over him simply existing in the moment feeling the ocean breeze cool off the heat of the sun. He waits until Crosshair speaks first,

“You didn’t need to come down.”

“Yeah well, Omega was worried about you.”

“She doesn’t need to worry about me” the sniper scoffs.

“No, she doesn’t but she does anyway. It’s the anniversary Crosshair, we’re all…thinking about him. You don’t have to be alone in this”

Echo still doesn’t look in Crosshairs direction, he doesn’t need to, he can tell Crosshair has that look in his eyes, that tightness in his jaw.

“You know…I was a twin myself. Still am, the absence of one doesn’t take away the existence of the other.”

Crosshair lets out a half hearted scoff his mechanic hand clenching and unclenching making a moment not unlike one flexing a sore muscle.

“Fives…Fives was the best of us. He was born to be a leader probably should’ve become a captain or commander one day”. Echo chuckles leaning back on his arm.

Crosshair’s brows furrow and he asks hoarsely,

“How do you…get over it?”

“You don’t. You never do, never will. It will stay with you, he will stay with you.”

“I don’t get it, how can you talk about him without-“ Crosshair stews in silence for a moment after his voice cracks

“Without losing it? I guess ive always thought of it kind of like the Jedi. They always said the people you lose are part of the force, and you know they always say the force is with you always so why wouldn’t they be with us always?”

“I suppose that it could work like that, but we aren’t Jedi”

“The Jedi said that we are all part of the force no matter what life form we are, whatever that means”

Echo smiles, watching the sun as it continues its dive beneath horizon.

“Y’know I like to think that they’ve met. Fives and Tech on an adventure beyond our galaxy.”

“Tech would probably talk his ears off about the statistical probability of the force letting them roam about the galaxy or something like that”

Crosshair says with a chuckle as he finally gives the slightest smile.

“Fives could probably talk enough to combat that, drive Tech crazy with his version of “Strategy”

They fall into a comfortable silence. Words still unspoken but enough were said to make the day a little easier.
