I'm supposed to have a title?

 So, I have read literally every single book by Cassandra Clare. Well, the ones set in the shadowhunter universe anyway.  I love them all to pieces. They are I guess shallow?....in the way that they aren’t like, world changing literature.  Okay, that sounds rude, but all you need to know is that I love the books and all of the characters.  Before you read further, I want to make a note to those living under a rock that there may be SPOILERS. Read at your own discretion.

I just started watching the new Shadowhunters TV series today, and I am a little disappointed...The only character who is the same on the show as they are in the books is Simon.  That’s it.  And I’m only two episodes in.  I like that they tried to create a cast that wasn’t all white.  I actually really think that making Luke be a stern black cop was a great choice.  It kind of bothered me in the books that everyone was white or of Asian decent (Magnus, Jem [literally only two characters]).  I thought Jace would be a little more lanky looking with more acidic sarcasm.  That might change though seeing as I’m only two episodes in. Isabelle and Alec so far seem like they did in the book, personality wise.  Clary seemed more badass in the book and the original movie though....in the show they make her out to be an innocent damsel. They also seem to be sexualizing her in the show as well.  I don’t ever remember her being scantily dressed, except for when she went to Magnus’ party in the first book. I don’t think this was what Cassandra Clare had in mind for her character.

Objectively, the show is pretty okay.  Not much character development so far, but fast-paced with some thrills, (and hilarious comments by Simon <3).  So, I believe that if you haven’t read the books or viewed the movie, then your TV show experience will be excellent.  If you have read them, then you might be slightly disappointed. I am so far enjoying it through my slight disappointment.  Don’t get me wrong, I do like the show.  Just some things threw me amiss, and that’s okay. You can’t expect everything to be the same between books and TV.
