Waterparks is the brainchild of frontman Awsten Knight, who decided to form the full live line up after recording the band’s first EP, Airplane Conversations. The band’s latest single, “New Wave,” includes a healthy dose of synth to create a power-pop jam worthy of getting you from the back of the room to dancing right up by the stage. Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band. Awsten Knight- vocals and guitar Geoff Wigington- guitar and vocals Otto Wood- drums and vocals 5 various friends- fill-in bass. What’s your hometown (or what are your hometowns)? Houston, Texas. It’s hot as shit. How did the band come together? How long has it been? The band came together because Otto and I (Awsten) had been in a band together before, so when the original to-be drummer fell through, I called up Otto and we were jamming the next day. Then one day the guy who was originally gonna play bass in the band was like “I’m bringing my friend Geoff to the next practice” and we were skeptical at first but Geoff was/is the biggest sweetie of all time and WE HAD TO KEEP HIM. How have you grown since you started? Before, Awsten recorded our debut EP “Airplane Conversations” and had been trying to put together an actual band to play live shows. It took a month or two after Airplane Conversations came out to make that happen. Now we’re a full band, we’ve played in multiple cities/states, opened for a bunch of national acts, and are currently recording our next release set to come out this spring.So basically, Waterparks is a “real band” now.  What sets you apart from other bands? One of us has more spectacular abs than anyone else who has ever been in any band ever. One of us has been employed by over 40 different places of business.One of us was offered crack cocaine by Blood On The Dance Floor behind a venue downtown. One of us almost failed/quit high school because of Zelda. One of us has two different colored eyes. We’re all in luv. What’s the best part about being in your band? Catching an occasional glimpse of Otto’s abs. They’re rare like bigfoot and sensual like Michael Bublé. However, we hang out a lot, so if you’re not in the band you most likely won’t get to be around him enough to cast a sweet gaze on those canyons. Geoff and I can look but we can’t touch (while he’s awake.) More times than not, influences tend to bleed through. What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making? Since writing the new stuff, I’ve tried not to listen to as many bands. It’s mostly been “ignorant pop bullshit”. We’re gonna make some honky-folk people dance.
